Yep, TRIKBLU, it's a beautiful thing to start out with, so you can only have FUN from there! I love your thinking on modding for performance first, then going for the exterior. I've done a little bit of both so far, and am just now getting my feet wet.
For what it's worth, here's my humble opinion on "body kits": break the looks of your Nitro, and your thoughts and preferences, down into little tiny pieces. Look at the overall picture, and think about what jumps out at you, in little bits. Personally, and I am a TOTAL NEWB on body mods (so take me with a large grain of salt), I am starting to learn that every little bit of it is a personal taste. I now think that I probably wouldn't WANT anybody's body kit. I would rather pick and choose a little at a time, to make it just my own.
For example, I might like a little chrome here and there, but I might not LIKE somebody's all-chrome "body kit" (if such a thing existed). I might like a little accent or change here and there, but not somebody else's idea of the whole picture. I know that when I first bought my Nitro, I didn't even know what people meant when they were talking about body mods and body kits, but I'm slowly starting to see little things, and starting to figure out my own preferences. It takes some time.
When I first started thinking about exterior mods, I was thinking of off-road-y looking things. Then I stared at my Nitro some more, and started to think about the gangstah look. Then I thought the two don't mix, as much as I might like the idea of one or the other theoretically, or little bits of one or the other. It takes time and baby steps, so ROCK ON, girl!
