Thanks much, my Nitro has come a long way from the bone stock SUV rolling on 20's that it started as. I am happy to be part of your FB Lonestar group. Always enjoy getting ideas from what other people are up to, and sharing on the things that I know.

After a week on the road with the current build of the Nirto I found some shortcomings that I will be addressing this winter. First and foremost is the tent on the roof. Having the tent on the roof really ties me down when camping and I need to completely break camp to do much of anything. This winter I will be buying a basic trailer and building an offroad capable trailer that will be economical. Tent will be moved to the trailer so I can chain it to a tree and do what I want to in the Nitro. Will also allow me to haul kayaks easier than my current option of over top of the tent. Trailer when complete will be rolling on the same wheels and rubber I am currently running along with a heavier axel.

Trailer will start like this....

When complete will look something like this. Tent rack will be raised up enough to mount kayaks or other gear under the tent (above the trailer) Taking cues from both of these builds.

I like tandem axles for two reasons:
1. They handle tough terrain better without shaking the contents as violently, and
2. If you get a flat, it isn't necessarily catastrophic. Indeed, you could limp down the road until you find a good place to stop and change the tire.

Been working hard on the trailer. I have a kayak race on March 25th so it needs to be complete by then. Frame and box are pretty much complete minus the frame under the tongue box. Axel swap complete to a 3500 Dexter axel. Starting on fenders. Some metal has been cut for the lid.

Putting in a tub in my house this weekend so production will restart when that headache is over.

@VictorSmalls I must say that I went thru all the pages on this thread and all I can say is...IMPRESSIVE. Sure wish I had the time and the resources to do half of what you have done. It's a shame that the aftermarket industry never accommodated the nitro. Again, you have one heck of a nice rig.

@VictorSmalls did you ever get around to measuring the front bumper? I am fascinated by it, and although I am not much of a welder myself, I do tons of design work. I am hoping to get a 3D model of it drawn up in my free time at work, and then i'll be able to have a plan of attack. Noticed you haven't been around since March, hope that all is well. You've sure got a 1 of a kind rig!

Hey guys. Its been awhile.

@memnitro The stock 20's with the Terra Grapplers were a great option. Nice road manners and were great on the trail running I did.

Going on a much needed camping trip to Ohiopyle Over the Falls Fest in a couple weeks. Have a new tent to put to use. Will post some pics when I return.

Here are some updated pics from my last Overland trip this year. As you can see the trailer is finished and I added a winch.

True. He posted it in the WTS section of the forumz, along with his off-road trailer. I believe he still has the trailer, but the Nitro is gone. :(

Correct, Nitro was sold around the end of October. Still sitting on the trailer and entertaining offers.
