I got a call from the dealership (here in South Florida) that the R/T I ordered on April 15th will be in on Thursday.

The two add-ons I'd like to do are:

1) Carriage Works Lower Bumper Grille covers over the transmission cooler. I noticed the exposed coils when we were shopping for the R/T.

2) Leather console cover is a real score. The same company that makes these beautiful "identical match" leather covers, made it for the 300C. It is a pleasure to have soft leather on your right elbow.

Have any of you done either of these modifications?

Congrats...You picked the best color too  I got one of those grills to cover the exposed area. It looks good as well as gives me peace of mind ;) Search for a thread on the counsel cover. It's here some where. I was gonna do it but never did. There are some pics posed here too. They look very nice!!! Remember to post pics when you take ownership :Racing:

Lee,

I would strongly recommend some kind of grill cover. I had a rock hit my AC condenser which let all the freon out. The dealer wanted nearly $800 to replace it. Fortunately, I have a small town mechanic who did the job for $395.

In order for them to replace the condenser, they had to take out the entire grill assembly. While we had it out, he put some aluminum gutter guard behind the main grill as well as in the bumper opening. This is a small diamond shaped expanded metal that should stop any rocks or debris from hitting the condenser, ps cooler or radiator.

I look at buying a grill cover, but when I saw how many dings I had on my radiator when they removed the grill, I wanted to put something that would not let the rocks and bugs hit.

Even though this was a cheap fix, it really looks great. When you look directly at the grill, it gives a a custom appearance similar to the billet grills. We were going to paint the screen black to blend in but I liked the way it looked in the silver/aluminum so that is how we left it.

If I get a chance this weekend, I will try to get some close-up pictures and post them.

Is that the A/C unit down there? I thought it was a cooler coil for the transmission fluid.
The smaller cooler is for the power steering. This has larger fins on it and appears to be less easily damaged from debris. However, directly behind this unit is the AC condenser. It too hangs down into the bumper opening and is exposed.

The fins on this are much smaller and more likely to be damaged if struck. Above the condenser, behind the main grill area, the radiator is such that it can be hit by anything that passes through the grill openings.

This is why I decided to put the "screen" in both openings to help protect all three of these cooling devices. Just adding an additional "grill" to the bottom opening may help but will still allow items to pass through.

Having experienced this first hand, I wanted to be sure I didn't have to go through this again!

I got the black R/T this afternoon, all the paperwork at the dealership took a bit longer than expected.

We were going to do a moderate ride-about, but the sky opened up and the rain was relentless. We hit the "home" button on the Nav and that was pretty much it.

Does the navigation use a loaded disc? I didn't do much manual reading this evening.

I'll post back after we take it out for a nice run on the Florida Turnpike tomorrow. Pictures hopefully over the weekend.

Have a happy holiday weekend.

I made my own lower grill cover from a scrap piece of aluminum mesh grill. Looks really good and cost is small even if you buy the grill material from the auto store.
