LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gracenote®, a global leader in technology and services that are an integral part of the digital media economy, today announced the all-new 2007 Chrysler Sebring will include the Gracenote MusicID™ CD database. Gracenote was the first to provide an embedded CD recognition solution for the automotive industry and has since shipped millions of units into the marketplace. The Chrysler Sebring represents the first North American auto maker to ship Gracenote’s MusicID database as a part of its optional MyGIG™ multimedia infotainment system.

The 2007 Chrysler Sebring features MyGIG, a cutting-edge information, entertainment and safety navigation audio system that raises the bar on in-vehicle communications. MyGIG includes Gracenote’s MusicID solution, providing Chrysler Sebring drivers with CD information including the artist, track and album playing. Gracenote's technology is enabling advances in digital media car audio systems, providing important new functions for instantly accessing, managing and storing an entire library of music in the car.

The MyGIG best-in-class, next-generation navigation radio features a 6.5-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) Display with a touch-screen panel. The MyGIG system follows voice-activated commands and includes many new features for music, sound, movies and personalized picture displays. Reinforcing Chrysler Group’s leadership in bringing technology to the masses, MyGIG will be available first in mainstream, mid-priced vehicles, including Dodge Nitro and Jeep® Wrangler, in addition to Chrysler Sebring.

“Gracenote is excited to have the Chrysler Group be the first North American auto maker to include our MusicID system in a popular new automobile,” said Jim Hollingsworth, vice president of sales and marketing at Gracenote. “Chrysler Group is providing truly innovative in-car entertainment systems and the new MyGIG multimedia infotainment system featuring Gracenote raises the bar even higher for must-have digital entertainment options.”
Gracenote MusicID provides a complete solution to manage and enjoy music collections in the car, living room, office and on the mobile phone. When drivers insert a CD into the MyGIG system, Gracenote MusicID will enable it to identify songs so the user can view the song, album and artist information, rather than just “Disc 1, Track 1.” MusicID can identify music by song, album, artist and genre with songs organized into fully functional music libraries, giving users a better way to manage their collections.

It will be interesting to hear if they offer some sort of facility to update that database for albums that have been released after the software version was finalized. The most likely thing will be to include it in with the occasional nav updates at $200+ a pop, but it would be nice if it were a downloadable file that then could be copied to the MyGIG.
