Hello Everyone,

I was searching for a new car for a while now and I have to say not one dealer would help. In such a hard time you would think that they would be crawling all over people. I finally went by a Dodge dealer and I even said up front I love to Durangos I had one once before and thats the only dodge I have ever had. I finally settled on a new Dodge Nitro SXT. I am a little dissappointed that dodge along with Jeep went with a auto 4wd set-up. With GM most (and their are exclusions) had an auto 4wd, a low and high 4wd, and 2wd. I was looking at an SLT or SXT and wanted 4wd, but was dissapointed to find they only offer part time 4wd. My Durango (1998) had 4wd hi and low. I go off-road alot with my atv and love to get messy, but with only part time I decided to save some money and get a 2wd SXT. I love the suv and how it drives. I had an Silverado with a 6.0 with so upgrades so I could run with vettes, and I have to give dodge credit the engine is good. I only hate the black plastic on the SXT. I got the upgraded wheels (SLT) and interior stuff just the black plastic kills me. I wish I could change those.

...... I finally settled on a new Dodge Nitro SXT................
Hi!

Good choice, that's what I have. Sorry you aren't happy with the 4WD capabilities of the Nitro, but I don't think it was ever intended as an Off-Road vehicle as the Liberty and the Wrangler are. (They are both "Trail Rated".)

But for what it does, the Nitro does well. I traded into the Nitro from a Cherokee, and had a Wrangler before that. I realize what the capabilities are of those vehicles compared to the Nitro. For basic off-road (as in Forest Service roads and such), it'll do just fine. Also handles the snow well, especially with the right tires.

So, as long as you accept the Nitro for what it is, and don't expect it to do what a Wrangler would, you'll be just fine!

Welcome to the forum.

Like you I have been a GM man for many years, but the Nitro was so cool that it caught my eye.

What really pushed me over the edge was that I could get a 6speed in the Nitro.

I am a very happy guy.

Personally I like the black plastic fenders and other parts, they are less prone to scratcing which is important to me as I occasionally take mine off road. Just keep Mother's Back to Black on them and they will look great.!!

Enjoy.

Ken
