That is funny. Maybe a type O. It says Dodge is recalling the Nitro 4X2 because the transfercase heat shield may drop down on the drive line.
A 4X2 does not have a transfercase!

:thk: Scar0, maybe they all get the heat shield and with the transfer case not there it will fall on the drive line.

Additionally, the drive shaft failure will result in a loss of motive power. Really?? Would have never expected the vehicle to have loss of power. lol. Not a really bright reporter or copy editor, note the pic of the 2007 Jeep Liberty not involved in the recall.

I don't think so. I've never trusted Consumer Reports on anything. They seem to have an anti-american made bias.

I did more research into this. It is true.
All Nitros get the heat shield with or without a transfercase.
The issue is; that without a transfercase, IE 4X2, when the heat shield comes loose it will drop down, rub on the driveline, and literally cut through it. This is because the driveline is made of hollow aluminum. Once the driveline is cut in half it drops to the ground. The front of the cut driveline can dig into the ground causing the rear of the vehicle to be projected into the air. Or the cut driveline can strike the top of the tunnel hard enough that the SRS system sensor, between the front seats, thinks the Nitro has been hit and deploys the airbags, thus potentially causing an accident.
So the report is true and there is a recall for the 4X2 Nitro.
Recall # N10
The "fix" is the dealer will add a bracket to the shield to prevent it from dropping onto the driveline if it comes loose.

Which is a band-aid fix. I think they should make it so the shield does not come loose!

Here are 2 documents you can download with more info about the recall.
But neither one is the actual recall notice.
This Doc has details on the defect. Click here.
This Doc has info on the "fix". Click here.

This is all the info I have at this time.

About two years ago there was mention of this happening to a least two members on the Red Forum. Very little feedback over there, so I do not know what the outcome was.

Scar0

I couldn't find the "official" information, so thanks for the leg work on that one.
I figured I couldn't find it because it was only just announced, and they hadn't gotten a chance to get everything organized.

Blue is at a new dealership today, for the whole day. I am having a nervous breakdown of course! She is getting the fuel tank, this recall and the wiper blade recall. I will report back how it all went. If anyone has any questions post now before I go back to get her and I will ask for you.

P.S. Took these new guys a bunch of soda, they work in a shop that has no a/c :(

Actually, YES!! I had her dropped off at 8:45 am and they called just about 2:30 to let me know she was ready! Total bill was $295.49 (all covered of course).
Parts: $133.00
Labor: $162.49

The part cost on the heat shield was a whole $5.81 and labor was $36.11

I lost some gas, was just above half a tank when I dropped her off and it was in between the 1/4 hash mark and the half mark. They had warned me ahead of time I would lose some fuel. I went down the street to a station that hadn't raised their prices yet and topped off.........NO SPEW!!!! :D

Was very happy with them, John Hoffer in Carthage MO for any local members. Worth the 15 mile drive. They really appreciated the soda too ;)

Great to hear! Sounds like maybe you've found a keeper dealer. As we've said over and over, the dealer experience is everything, it's probably the most important factor in how you feel about your vehicle and if you'll get another one from them.

Cool deal BK.
Glad to hear you found a dealer who treats you right.
Wish I did not have to drive 45 miles to the one I like...

Question people all these recalls are they still good?what I mean is I bought mine in 2007 new and only had 1 recall done. I'm seeing all these recalls and wanted to know if they are still good to take mine in. And what do I need, do I need certain paper work or what

Yes, any "recall" must be done by a dealer for free. All you need to do is to call or go into a dealer, give them your VIN, and let them know you want all outstanding recalls done.
FYI; a TSB & RR (rapid response)is not the same as a recall. Out of warranty TSB & RR $ is on you.

Thanks scar0 I will look into it epically bout the TIPM see if that will fix my door locks
There was never a recall issued for the TIPM door lock issue. Or for the numerous other electrical problems associated with the TIPM. Horns going off, wipers moving on their own, etc.
