I am about to lease a 2007 Nitro R/T. I figured i would do some research to see what people were saying about their nitro. I have read all the horror stories about the trans and the stalling of the car. Is the problems fixed in the newer built ones? If so does anyone know the cutoff date?

Welcome to the forum! Yes, there have been some horror stories, remember, this is a new vehicle. 2007 was the first model year. The trans issues and stalling issues have been addressed and fixed for older (read earlier built) vehicles. There can be lemons with any model vehicle and some people have had lemon Nitro's (even though yellow is not a paint colour you can choose!).

Most owners here have had no problems or only minor problems. I have over 14,000km on my Nitro since May 2007 and have the roof rattle problem yet to be fixed, but there is a TSB for it, I just haven't had it in the dealer yet.

I hope you enjoy your Nitro!

I thought I read somewhere the cut off date was dec 06, but don't quote me on that.

Welcome Jung - besides horror stories and trans issues, I think you'll find that this vehicle is infectious and will have a special place in your heart. Warranties are made for service issues, and most Dodge dealers have exceptional service departments, in my experience. (see Meangirl's post - if you live near her, don't cross the street, and look out for jury duty)

I had the trans issue - took it to my dealer - and it was fixed in minutes. The way I see it, if the trans falls out of the thing, with the lifetime powertrain warranty, who cares? They can just give me a new one!

What I am trying to say is: You'll love how this vehicle makes you feel, regardless of whatever little bugs it has!

And one more thing - Buy ORANGE, not blue.

There was a TSB for the R/T related to the transmission, and it was for build dates of January 2007 and earlier. So after that there are no major problems, and even that problem was minor (shift bump, ie rougher than normal shifts).

Thank you all for your posts. I feel ALOT better now. My wife and I love the look of the Nitro and all the added features it offers. When i heard some of the problems I was worried we were making a bad choice. I now feel we are doing the right thing and will go Saturday and make the deal.

Thanks Waldorf. Should I be looking for a certain build date?
like Limey said, if you get a more current build date or even the RT model (as I did) you won't have any significant issues. I love my Nitro to pieces! Literally, I have mine apart every chance I get! Ask anyone here! :chuckle:

The question is did you have any parts left over? ;)
