Gooday, Not sure how many guys this interests, but I have 22's w/ 35 series tires on my nitro and there is way too much gap to the fenders. I could not source a lowering spring for the 4x4 so I sent my o.e. springs to a company that custom builds springs. They have taken a profile off of my springs and are producing me a 1 off spring w/ a reduced ride height of 2". They will be installed next week. I'll post some pics ,, anyone interested reply through the forum... Price yet to be determined. Cheers

Dude let me know how that comes out I would love to lower my nitro. I just got ride of a sonoma that was lower 4" in the front and 7" in the back, It had 18" wheels in the front and 20" wheels in the back. The wheels where Boyd Coddington Haze's.

By putting lowered springs and not a matching strut or shock on it, you risk blowing the seals in the factory ones becasue they can now travel more than before. I would look into some shocks specifically designed for lowered vehicles. I had this problem with a BMW 525 I used to have. Factory shocks lasted about 2 weeks then were shot. Looking forward to seeing it when its done though.

By the way, there is a German company here called Billstein that makes a spring and shock kit for the Nitro 4x4. I will see if I can find a link for you.

Hmmm.... I would strongly argue against the assertion that the Nitro was "meant for going off road." With 20" rims with little rubber as an option, small amount of wheel well clearance, no low-range option for the transfer case, no proper undercarriage armor, not to mention the front lower bumper, I have trouble seeing it positioned as a vehicle designed for offroad use stock from the factory.

Is it capable of going off-road? Absolutely. Could it be used as a trail vehicle? With some decent modifications, sure. But I don't think lowering a Nitro is poor decision, especially if Slim already has 22" shoes on. He'll still have the advantage of 4-wheel drive for bad-weather handling, but I don't see this nearly as blasphemous as tossing low-profile tires on and lowering a Wrangler.

I have to agree with Aaron, a Nitro is not a Jeep, it is not "trail rated" with skid plates and low range transmissions and most of us will never take it off road. For most, it is a really cool looking mid-size SUV and the 4WD is a plus for bad weather. I passed an original era Chevy small Blazer on the GSP yesterday and he had big rims with skinny tires and it looked so stupid I laughed my butt off as I passed it. The Nitro looks good in 22s or mudders.

If the Eibach springs ever come out for the 4wd, I would seriously consider putting a set in my Nitro!

A Nitro offroad would be like taking a Escalade or RAV off road. They have 4x4 for winter driving but not for true offroad adventures. All of the extra cladding and ground effects make them useless for offroad. Since I live in MN if you have a rear wheel drive vehicle you need to have 4 wheel drive as an option during snow storms. Rear wheel drives just don't cut it. I also replace my 20's with winter rim & tire combo for best traction. I have too much space between my tire & wheel well and want it to disappear.

Question! Why would you lower a 4x4 vehicle that was meant for going off road? I mean I can understand lowering a 2x4 and they look great, but can't get a grasp on lowering a 4x4.
I totally agree. Lowering a 4x4 is like putting a lift kit on a Lamborghini. WHY WHY WHY??? If you want to have a lowered truck save your money & don't buy the 4x4 version. I live in Alberta (that's in Canada for all you Americans) & we get plenty of snow. Lowering your Nitro will only make you more likely to bust up your air dam because of less clearance. But in the end it is your Nitro & your money & I'm sure it will look great.

By the way isn't it called a 4x2? I didn't know I had bought a piece of wood (actually think mine is more of a lemon) :Racing:

PS... How the hell do I start my own thread???
