Needed to restart this since it lost focus and lacked detail...

Well, now that I'm living in Florida and actually have chances to go diving..I've noticed a need to make some modifications to the Nitro to better suit it as a dive vehicle..

Several initial ideas:
  • High rack hanger in back, would need to support up to 30-40lbs hanging on it..
  • Mounting system to hold a tank or two securely in the back
  • Heavy duty liner to trap water/sand yet keep Load-n-Go funcitionality
  • Way to disarm and get into Nitro (keyless entry keypad?) so I can lock electronic key in the car..
  • Dehumidifier/fan in the back would also help dry the gear..
I dont want to do any modifications that can not be easily reversed/removed due to needing to carry other non-dive gear!

Keeping the load-n-go functionality is also key as it makes it easy to put dive gear on!

This is why my current system just isnt very good :shakehead::

For the tank holders, they make brackets that hold tanks which are usually used on boats and would do the job quite nice, if I could figure out how to mount them without screwing into my interior..They look like this:

The flipdown feature is nice of them - as they would be pretty mch out of the way wthout having to remove them!

Any suggestions/comments/other features I should have - post away!

Will how about some kind of slide in-out frame or a like a "L" shaped that you could attach the tanks or tank rack to? But you have to put that some place when not in use, I think you said your in an apartment? hmm don't know, just brainstorming for you :thk:

the problem with that is that 2-3 tanks would weigh in around 100lbs or more..would have to be very solid...

..although the weight could rest on the load-n-go..as it would be good to be able to slide the whole "station" out closer...

the problem lies in how to mount the frame to the load-n-go securely..

another idea..would be to create a "bottom holder" construction of some PVC pipes to hold the bottom of the tanks stable..should be easier to mount securely - I could then try and attatch a pole/metal stabalize up from each pvc to hold the brackets - but not sure how stable I could get this..comments?

Will, do you know any welders down there? I would think a pipe rail frame with four corner posts, cross bracing in between the corners (sides and across the back only - with the back meaning the side next to the rear seat back- leaving the rear wide open for access). Weld the four corner posts down to two 4" wide x 29" long 1/8" thick steel strips. The load and go is 29" deep and 39" wide. You want to be able to slide this in/out without any interference.

Order one of the Husky liners and set the whole thing up on top of it. Weld a few small pipe braces across the top for a rack to hang your suit from, and another steel strip along one side so you can mount your tank bracket (from your photo). This should leave you some flat floor space on the rubber mat that you don't have now for carrying other items. Make sure to use epoxy paint on the whole thing before you ever use it the first time to retard rust and saltwater corrosion. The whole thing should weigh about 75 pounds. Still, you will not want to remove it very often due to the size.
