Besides slipping and sliding, scraping off your windows, etc, have you noticed any other issues with your NITRO relating to the cold temperatures?

For many of us this is the first winter for our NITRO's

I store my NITRO outside unfortunately and have noticed recently now that the temp has dipped to freezing temp (0 degrees celsius or below) that the NITRO revs higher/louder on startup when it is cold.

Anyone else experiencing this? Should I be worried? I will mention it to the dealer on my next service visit

My cars always sleep outside. Yes, it's normal that the engine sounds louder at a cold start. It will take some minutes / miles before everything is at the right temp. Also changing gears will go not so smoothly when the car is cold.

Sometimes my cooling fan will start first thing in the morning even though the engine is cold. It will stop once the engine hits about 2500 rpm. I talked to NitroTech about it and he seemed not to worry so I'm not worried either.

Frigid Tires!

:wavey:
G'DAy Eh?!
Was leaving work Friday morning, it was -10C, and found my "Tires Low" light on.
Stopped by dealer, who checked them out, and was told not to worry.
Nitrogen is more sensitive to cold. They did warm up, :4-flames:but it took longer than usual .... :4-jump2:

Same happened to my tire pressure indicators.
Filled them up as they dint look full enough and the ride was bouncy and sluggish.

I filled mine past 228 psi just in case they lost pressure again.
I usualy just eyeball the tire inflation level.

She's ridin' like a charm now!

hay i hope all of u that post about there PSI being low read this!!!!!! the reason it reads low is the colder it is the more ur tires compress and the condesation will settle it will return to normal after ur tires warm up do not and i repeat do not fill when this happens unless after it warms up ur tires r still the same if u fill b4 they warm up u will have a tire explosion dependin on ur speed could be fatal;)

dont belive me leave a football fully inflated outside in the cold or snow for one day bring it inside it will look deflated then fill it with more air and it will not explode because it is not well made like ur tire but u will have slow leaks in it? cold compress heat expands:))

Cold and the Nitro

Last week we had two nights that were -22 Degree F. The first morning the motor made some wierd noises when it started, but it started right up. It took awhile to get the inside warm, even the heated seats took awhile. I plugged my Nitro in the second night, and it started up like regular and the heater sure warmed up inside a lot faster. The cold days only lasted two days as its now in the 20's here in Montana. Its usually warmer here than in the midwest, we've had snow only a few times in central Montana. The western mountains have had a lot though. I like the 4x4 ing.

I did notice on the -15 degree days that it takes awhile for the heat and heated seats to warm up, roughly 10 minutes

...and yes 4*4 is a blessing
my seats warm up much faster than that! I love them!

You're tires are more likely to explode when the pressure is too low. The reason? When pressure is too low, the sidewall flexes too much, creating too much heat, which causes the tire to fail. If you're tires are properly inflated cold, the most the pressure will increase when they heat up is 10%, or in the case of 32 PSI, 3.2 PSI. As the temperature falls, you lose 1 PSI per 10 degrees F. So if it goes from 70F to 30F and you had 32 PSI to start with, now you're at 28 PSI.

We recently had a week when it was 5 degrees or below every single day. My car gets the driveway and when I would start it, it would make a REALLY bad grinding noise...kinda like a belt being driven with too much friction. The tire PSI would read at around 26 even, and the car would make funny noises for a while. Power steering fluid would freeze, as well as brake fluid. Takes about 5 min of idling to even make it driveable.

hi. i havent noticed my nitro revving high in the cold but i just put a posting up on something that has come to my attention as a part defect. the temp dropped to below 30 C where i live and the morning i went out to my nitro, BOTH roof rails were snapped completely off at the front bolt. i guess i was the first one into the dealer that day, but recieved a call from them later that about 7 or 8 came in after me with the same problem. i kept an eye out for nitros on the road and would you believe i saw between 15 and 20 out there with snapped roof rails. the dealership covered the replacements and supposedly put a new "more durable, better designed" roof rail on. heres hoping they last the rest of the winter. my friend kept his nitro parked outside that night and when he got in he noticed his console had cracked also. maybe they werent cold tested enough for temps below minus 30c.
