My radio is only giving reception in city area. Once I get out of the city=no reception. Anyone else experience this?
Hi ...............

Are you talking about AM, FM, or Satellite radio reception?

my question would be the same as Joe's and does it look as if your antenna has any issues?

Sounds like your antenna cable is detached.
Yeah, you would think so, but I took it out and without the antenna cable plugged in, its even worse.

A local radio shop wants money to just open it up, so I've decided to try and get a 6-disc; does anybody have one that has been replaced by aftermarket? LMK please:smileup:

Odds are - it's neither the antenna plug OR the radio.
My AM/FM lost reception on my last nitro -- it did this twice and had to be fixed twice. They found it was because I was putting a magnetic CB radio antenna on top of my car. This magnet caused the AM/FM antenna to short out.
Many things can cause the radio antenna to short out and it's expensive to have the dealer fix because they have to go through the headliner to fix it.
I would first: check to see if the antenna is plugged into the back of your radio -- it's VERY easy to do this -- the Nitro is just about the easiest car to do it on. Simply lift up the rubber mat in the storage compartment on your dash. Unscrew the two screws and the entire front console cover will pull out of their clips. This allows you to easily access your naked radio and unscrew the four screws that hold it in. Simply unscrew the four screws, pull the radio out of its sleeve and check to see that the antenna wire is secure on the back of the radio. To do the math - you have to make about $140 per hour to have this not be worth your time. Because it's only going to take you 15 minutes to take apart and put back together. that's $35 for 15 minutes of work that the shop wants.

Yup, thanks for the tip. I did take the radio out and unplugged the antenna-then I didn't get any city reception either, plugged it back in and local reception returned, so I really think its in the radio.
