It has began to get rather warm here in KC and I have started using my AC. When I turn it on, it starts out blowing really nice cold air. However, after running a couple of minutes it begins to cycle on and off. It will blow cold for about 30 seconds to a minute and then the compressor kicks off for about the same amount of time. Once this is complete, then it repeats the cycle all over again.

While it will keep you from sweating, it really doesn't keep it very cool if the temperature outside is above 80 or 85.

I was wondering is anyone else has experienced this type of thing. I thought I would check out the forum before taking it to the dealer. I like to be prepared to know if this is just mine or if it is bigger than that. Knowing others might be having this same issue makes it hard for the dealer to brush me off.

Thanks!!!!

There have been a few people that mentioned intermittent or cycling a/c function. Hopefully some will offer some assistance. We run a/c all year round here except in the a.m. in winter.

I hate the new systems with R134 but mine is not that bad. The only complaint I have with the AC is that it shuts off during fast acceleration. If it would kill the blower too so that it was not blowing humid air at me it would not be so bad but after taking off from a light it takes a few minutes to feel cool again.

It certainly sounds like yours is a problem that the dealer needs to look at.

I have noticed the same thing with mine when you accelerate. However, it not only does it then but often when just cruising along at normal constant speeds.

I have no doubt this is an issue that the dealer will need to check out but I just wanted to see if this is common or something isolated. I like to be "armed" when I go into battle!!! :thk:

The way it's going on and off and it sounds like it is low on freon. You may have a small leak somewhere that would need to be checked out. Putting in more is a short time fix and a waste of money if you don't know where it's leaking.

Looking for something else, my mechanic accidentally found oil beading up at the bottom of the A/C compressor. Took it into the shop, and it turned out there had been a defective O-ring causing air and oil to leak from the system.

I had thought my A/C wasn't blowing very cold, so that explains it and after the appropriate parts replacement and freon re-charge, my AC is cold as ice - wonderful!

Any time one of our new vehicles is found to have a defective part, I think it's good stuff to share in case more than one of such doohickeys got out of the plant. Soooo, have that O-ring checked :)

Mine does not blow cold unless at high rpm. Just cool. When it is 90 Deg. out, it takes 30 minutes of driving for the inside to cool down enough to make me stop sweating. I have taken it to the dealer 2 times and both times I was told that is is within "operating Norms". That is just the way it is. They will do nothing for me. I wish mine would blow cold! If I wanted to sweat I would just drive the old Cherokee. I wish it would just completely brake so they would make it work right. I have tested it with a digital thermometer. It blows with in specs. (Barley) at 2000 rpm after about 30 minutes.
