Ok, so here's another poll. This one will require 2 answers, first your oil change interval and second you type of oil. If the oil container states it is a full synthetic then vote as such. The Nitro uses 5W20, but I'm not asking if you use a different viscosity, that's another topic.

NitroTech, on the oil change, what is best synthetic or regular oil?
For me it's every 3000 miles. Getting my first oil change tomorrow (10/5/2007). Should I ask for synthetic???? Thanks!!!
Once you go synthetic, then stay synthetic. Synthetic is good, go for it. Usually costs a little more. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic. Highly recommended.

YIKES!!! You don't care much for oil changes even with 3000 miles/year!!! You should double the number of oil changes to 4 per year. Thermal breakdown doesn't stop and your engine sees even worse conditions compared to one that gets driven an average 12-13 thousand miles. Cheap insurance for a long lasting engine without problems. Of course, if twice per year works for you, giver!!

First change was at 700 miles using synthetic and Napa Gold filter. LOTS of metal shavings in the oil pan:SHOCKED:!! I'm at 1200 now and will change that at 2000 without a filter change, then at 4000 with a new filter. From there, using synthetic on all the oil changes, about every 5K. If it looks black prior to the 5K changes, it will get changed. Going to see how this engine performs to determine a true schedule.

every 3000 miles, i change the oil and oil filter. do it myself.

mcnabb (kaleos) in louisiana..........:D
Same here, I like to see what's in the used oil when I pour it back into the bottles. The bottom of the pan last change looked like metal flake paint.

On the 4.0, it's so simple why pay anyone to do it. Just a pan and a wrench and have fun!

By the way, even more important than frequent oil changes is a brief warm-up period before driving.

Experts say that waiting just 15-30 seconds before putting your car in gear can add 50-100K of mileage. The hype about most wear during startup is true but not for the reason's mentioned by oil additive companies.

The wear comes from burned fuel condensing on the upper part part of the cylinder while the block is cold. Even a slight load on the engine increases side load on the pistons which will wear the upper part of the cylinder.

15 seconds of idling is a great investment. Start the Nitro, then buckle your seat belt, check your mirrors and guages--- do this everyday and you will have the 15 seconds of idling.
