So, I actually sold my 2004 srt4. Unfortunately I sold it less than what I had planned but still made it out OK. The guy buying it was as excited as I was when I got it so I'd like to think it went to a good home.

Been doing the dealer scam game for the past month or so and hate it. With me it's a little more touchy because I work with many area dealerships installing aftermarket items for them. So, when I buy from one dealer, the rest get real testy.

Anyhoo, I narrowed it down to 2 Nitro r/t's. One is loaded (no mygig or dvd) and blue, the other only has sunroof and is white. I kind of like the idea of the white one since I know it'd be much easier to keep clean but like the do dads of the other. The only thing keeping me back is pricing of the both of them. The blue one is at a dealer and is considered used because it's got 2900 miles. They said they'd do $26000 plus tax. The white one is privately owned with about 5k miles priced at the same point. Personally I think both vehicles are a little pricey for used vehicles. Also, the scare about the potential problems has me holding the red flag too.

well for right now the stalling issue, those that aren't getting specified mpg, and general rust issues. Back when the Liberty was just released I bought one. It never left me stranded but man was it littered with recalls. I only have it about 3 years and it was rusting from the inside out, literally. I own a detail/aftermarket bizz and I can't have vehicles looking bad so quickly. So, being that the Nitro is about 10k more than the Liberty, I don't want any issues. Even my srt4 that only had 43k miles on it was showing the tell tail sign of rot around the weep holes in the trunk lid.:(

Yeah I know the r/t trucks are hard to find but since I sold my car at a decent price, it puts me in the right position to get the car I want. I'll just have to wait and see what comes up. I gonna buy one because I'm down to one car but the inlaws have an extra vehicle to give up for a while. So, I could get something this week or next year. It doesn't really matter at this moment.

I know of no R/T with the stalling issue. Perhaps I am wrong, maybe some of the early ones do have the problem. Don't buy one built before February. I have never had anything even close to the stalling issue.

The only issue with the 4.0L-5speed automatic is that you can confuse the computer and make it feel like a hesitation. Normal driving, you will never encounter this, unless you are in the habit of flooring the throttle, letting off, flooring the throttle, letting off, well, you get the idea.

Mileage- Mine is getting 16 city with a lot of A/C use. I would do a lot better if I would put some highway miles on it.

Rust- I haven't owned any vehicle that didn't rust. The Nitro I am driving now, owned since April 20th, doesn't seem inclined to rust any more than any other vehicle I have owned, and it has been pouring rain almost daily here since I got it.

Really poncho, reading between the lines here, it sounds like you are having second thoughts and you really don't want to get a Nitro. If that is were you're at, it's no sweat man. Just make the decision and move on

well I'll be darned if I just didn't find what could be a good deal on one that's only about an hour away from me. It's at http://www.byersdublindodge.com/ They have a silver r/t with 2 miles on it. It stickers for just under $30k and they have a "special" price of about $26500 on it. Gonna have to check this out tomorrow.:)
It looks nice, good deal! Sunroof, and yes essential..:Racing:

Highvoltage, it isn't that I don't want one, just don't want to pay for a bunch of problems. I've been doing research and the Nitro is so far at the top. I started looking at the Toyota FJ but those seem to have even more problems especially with paint falling off. Plus, they don't have 4 doors.

And much worse visibility, and probably LESS storage room, and an even more plasticy interior. I love the FJ, Land Cruiser Prado Frame with new 4 Runner tranny, very good combination, but I didn't like the shell it was put it all too much, the original probably had better visibility out of it.

The FJ I drove was a 2WD leather, about 30k... I didn't justify paying almost $8k more for it.. for a similar vehicle.

I was also worried about the stalling issue but come to find out there seems to be no problem with the R/T. As far as MPG goes I was pleasantly suprized when my wife pulled off 21.2 mpg out of hers this week. She drives pretty easy (speed limit) but is a little aggressive from the starts. She's not on the floor from the lights but she's not wasting any time and shows her stoplight granprix opponents who's boss. I drove it this weekend (yes she let me drive) and we went on a short trip )120 up 128 back) with just three stops. I checked the mpg and got 24 mpg on that round trip. I was really happy to say the least. It was back country roads with a maximum of 60mph and minimal traffic and several small towns so I'm sure I could get 25mpg on the I-state if I kept it at 70 without the stops. My wife really liked this vehicle and is her primary commuter. Each time I drive it I like it more and more. My wife has her punch list ready for it's first trip to the dealer but I've purchaced enough new cars in my life to know they all have their own set of quirks to be ironed out. No regrets so far on this one. JW

heavy, thanks for the input. Yeah, most of my driving would be considered highway since I live in a rural area have have to travel to dealerships in a 50 mile radius. I guess now it just depends on which dealer gives me the least amount of crap on the sales pitch and what car I find that I like in options and color. I really like the blue but I already have a Silverado close to that color. Plus, since I'd be doing a lot of driving, I'd like a lighter color so it'd look cleaner longer. So, I'd be leaning to white or silver.

poncho, my 'biggest' problem with gas mileage is my size 13 foot.:D Lately, I have seen my mileage down as low as 14.8 mpg. I reset the trip computer before leaving home this morning and started "Driving Miss Daisy" like all day today. At the end of the day, with the A/C blowing strong, I was getting 17.3 mpg in town, no highway driving. I tried really hard to keep it under 2500 rpm. When I say really hard, I mean it. After putting the K&N drop in on it, it is much more difficult to drive at lower rpm. It just wants to zoom baby!

yes I know what you mean. my srt4 that I had I rarely got advertised mpg because it was so fun to spool up the turbo. my area of question is that many times these cars don't actually get the advertised mpg as stated. My Liberty was horrid on gas and never got what it said it would no matter how you drove it.

I myself am partial to the black, but was going to get Silver initailly. I just viewed the car you're looking at; other than now knowing what the bells and whistles are on this one, I say go for it!! It looks very classy and for what your were going to pay for a used one, you might as well get one that has only "2" miles on it!!! :Banana01:
