Everytime i do research on the 4.0l engine i get frustrated.. I love my car but they make nothing performance wise for this car i see more products for the 3.7l then the 4.0l. Why does almost every v6 out there produce more horsepower and torque then the nitro? Why would they give the nitro an R/T badge when it makes about 100 less horses then any other dodge with the R/T badge? I mean even the avenger R/T makes 30 more horses then the nitro..and the nitro is a small suv it weighs more then the avenger..they have 4 cylinders that are pushing the same horsepower as the nitro if not more..im seriously thinking about spending the money and swapping it out for the 5.7l i dont wanna get rid of my nitro just for power but i need more power im a racer if i can find an engine cheap enough id love to swap the motors

These have been ongoing frustrations and discussions since day one with the Nitro. Unfortunately, we are all in the same boat. There just isn't much in the way of aftermarket performance for either engine in the Nitro. Again unfortunate, is the Nitro's dependency on the computer and electronics. And engine swap would probably be a fairly easy thing to do, but getting the electronics to work optimally would be an absolute nightmare.

Personally, I think the R/T option for the Nitro was more of a sales and marketing ploy for higher profits. I owned a Couple of Dodge Ramcharger's back in the day. One was a fuel injected 360 V8, The other had large 4 bbl. carburetor 400 wedge V8. And let me tell you, I dearly miss both vehicles! Both were 4x4 and would go virtually anywhere! I would love to see Dodge bring the Ramcharger back. Guaranteed, I would be custom ordering one in a second!

I remember when they first came out i mean even the commercials made it look like a beast. (dont get me wrong this things still a beast!) Just not perfromace wise. And yeah thatd what im worried about with an engine swap im thinking if i can atleast drop it in and get it in place myself i have a buddy that works behind my shop that does engine swaps in all different type of vehicles for people he might be able to get the computer and electronics linked properly for a fair price.

Thats seems realistic. Thats probably why they took it off after 2009 i believe. But those ramchargers are some real beasts. Just seen one the other day at the gas station and man that was a nice truck fresh paint job, big wheels and tires. Looked mean!

Hello, I've been following this site for about 8 months and just joined today.
My question is for anyone that can help. My wife's nitro bit the dust about 2 weeks ago coming back from a mini vacation. I got an engine with less than 60,000 miles but after pulling the bad one out, I noticed the replacement doesn't have the bore for an egr valve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Fitting a 5.7 is a large task and way different. A 4.7 would be easier, maybe. The 4.7 has the same wedge design. A board user once requested a Nitro to fit a 5.7. Work would be free if you provided a Nitro and engine. The shop would do the work to learn how to adapt one. I wonder if he ever made progress.
