Has anyone else been in an accident in their Nitro yet?

I got hit quite hard today. Lady in a minvan ran a stop sign and nailed me at well over 50kmh. While it looks like there is a lot of damage Im very glad I was in a big heavy vehicle cause if I was in my old sunfire I would probably not be typing right now or ever again

looks like Im going to need a new rear driver side door, quarter panel, body work around the door frame, a wheel/tire...whatever that little piece of plastic under the bumper is called (the flat thing its like a deflector of some sort)...and god knows what else got bent out of shape. I think the gas tank got hit too cause the fire department were there. I got taken to the hospital before I could get a good look at things...*sigh* How much you guys think this is going to cost mini van lady?
We should take bets

Well first off, on behalf of the forum, WE ARE GLAD THAT YOU ARE OK!!! People can't be replaced, but cars can.

As for the damage, if the frame is bent up, I could see them totally it. Otherwise, definitely around 10 grand. We will see.

Another member "fhartell" had a major mishap and rolled his Nitro over a guard rail. Thankfully the turn out was the same. Everyone was OK.
Glad to hear the Nitro did it's job and protected you. Sorry about your Nitro. :(
My wife was rear ended in her Santafe and I thought it was totaled, but the shops now days can do some amazing stuff with a unibody frame. They were able to pull it back and to the left and you can not tell that it was ever hit.
My 2 ¢ is on 12 grand for the repairs.

Glad to hear you are okay.. Hope you are feeling better... IF indeed the frame is bent, don't accept anything less that a new vehicle. As it was not your fault, you deserve the same quality vehicle you pulled away from your home in earlier. Also you have a right to refuse any work done on your vehicle (at least in Utah...) make sure the work is up to your standards, DON'T settle for anything you are not happy with. Best wishes!

Id like to thank everyone for the nice thoughts. I am very lucky to have walked away with just a sore neck. Im currently still waiting for the insurance adjuster to get back to me. Im up in Canada things work a little weird up here.
I'd like to get some photos taken but the car is in a compound right now...where that is I have no clue.
My main fear with the repairs is how long it will take to get parts. I had my rims replaced under warranty and had to wait over 2 months for those alone!
I think you guys are all right with the $10-$12K in repairs looks like the door will run at least $1000 with paint and labour who knows.
Glad I have insurance! and a big car!

Wow, glad you are ok! If you haven't been to the hospital, you should go for a checkup. Pain can take a few days to set in, trust me.

I don't think the minivan lady will be paying anything but your deductible. No fault insurance, your insurance company will cover everything else.

If you got side swiped at the rear wheel, I would suggest your axle got shifted, and everything from the driveshaft back will likely need replacing. I hit a concrete median at 45 degrees at about 90km/h in my Cherokee, and both front and rear axles were shifted over (it spun around when the front hit and hit the rear too). The entire frame was bent, and body work alone rang in at $13,000. They stopped counting at that point and wrote it off.

Glad nobody was hurt. My Wife and I hate the idea of having to pay insurance as we have never had to use it for anything other than once when she locked herself out of her Jeep. I didn't know insurance covered that. The only bad thing is that if it totaled and you are still paying on it that you got the gap insurance. If you still owe 25K but it is only worth 20K than you still have to pay 5K out of pocket. Good luck on the repairs and if you get a chance I think we would all like to see some pictures.

I'd love to post photos but I have no clue where my car even is! the last I saw of it it was driving away on a flatbed looking rather sad. Apparently the adjuster is having a difficult time getting a quote together because its so hard to find parts other than from dodge.
Also if it is a write off I have replacement cost for the first 5 years of owning the car so Im good and will most likely end up with a new 08 because of the way its set up where they have to give you the same model or better with zero depreciation on the car. I highly doubt that I could have that luck though.

Go to a really good doctor on that neck. I got rear-ended by a pick-up in a 68 Firebird in 1969 and I live with Daily neck and shoulder pain. The doctor back then told the judge I would not have any significant future pain. Man would I like to get ahold of him now.

I wouldn't accept any other parts except from Dodge. I wouldn't want some off brand part on my Nitro. When I got rear ended I got the estimates and took it to where I wanted. I would take it to your dealership to have the work done.

unfortunately I have no clue where my car even is to take photos of it! and I cant take it to a dealership because its not drivable plus the dealership doesn't do body work. I pretty sure that all the parts they are going to need are probably going to have to come from dodge anyway. the only part I could even find online was the back door.

I didnt realize none of the 08s have the different colour bumpers I wonder how hard that will be to find for a car they only made one year!

Well off to pick up my rental car now!

Of course we are all glad you are ok, but if it was me in this situation, I would be praying the insurance co calls it a total loss. You don't want it back. They are never right again. Squeeks, rattles, things not quite lined up right, that is your future with a repair.
Good luck.

Obviously I'm glad you're ok. I can't help but notice that every account of an accident in the Nitro, even serious ones, have resulted in the passengers coming out unscathed. That's damn reassuring to me and I wouldn't be so quick to jump to a tin can for the sake of a couple of more mpgs.
