The Pioneer Avic D3 is out now at the lower price of 1000 US ... along with that unit take a look at the Clarion Max675vd paired with the Nax970hd. DodgeKnitro and I along with another member have the Clarion units installed already. Do a search we have the photos posted.

Here is the thread with both DK and I's installs.

Quite a few of us have aftermarket units installed.
For an aftemarket navigation system you will need to interaface with the Dodge CAN BUS system for some of the wires specifically the VSS. See the interior mods section for more info.

Has anyone looked at this product as a mygig alternative? Looks like it is about 1999CAD plus 199 for bluetooth adapter...

I have an R/T coming with upgraded stereo/uconnect/ect.. am wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket stereo and/or if dodge has made it incredibly difficult to do so?

tks!

The Z2 is out now as well... IMO, the aftermarket Z1/Z2 are the best in the business. They offer so much more than MyGiG. DCX has been slow getting MyGiG out to the masses anyway. So I would say, if I can't have the MyGiG, I'll absolutely be getting me an Avic Z1/Z2.

According to the specs though, you can only add music to the hard drive from store bought cd's. Have you been able to load up your own mp3's?

Dang, I am jealous billy, I only have a 30gb Video installed in my nitro!

LOL
No need to be jealous, it was a gift. However, 30gb's is very good! Still more than the MyGiG DCX has been slooooooooooooooooooooow to ship! The beautiful thing about aftermarket, is you have more options and features. Also, when/if you decide to sale/trade in your vehicle, you can simply put that factory radio back in. But hey, to each his/her own.

I was told by a sales guy that you could upload MP3 files to it, but looked at the spec and it says other wise. NB have you tired it?
I think it is a hassle to keep the IPOD plugged in all the time, and have a cable hanging. IF you can upload them, I may give up on the MyGIG and go this route....
Txs!

I too am interested in the AVIC Z1/Z2 Units.

Anyone actually have one?

I have yet to find any other unit that comes close!?

Has anyone found out about uploading music? Someone mentioned it will download from a store bought CD, does that mean a home made CD, in CDA format wont work?

I know the unit reads MP3 CD's can it copy the mp3's to the HDD?

Thanks for the input..

I have the AVIC-D2, and running an iPod is nearly equal to having a Z1 IMHO. If the D2 software will get an update to mock the D3, I will be very happy, if not I may upgrade to the D3, but the Z1/Z2 is still far off from MyGig. The D3 will save you some bucks, and by hooking up your iPod you will be very happy (D3 + iPod is till way cheaper than MyGig and/or Z1/Z2).

That's assuming you own an Ipod. The Ipod will cost you most of the difference between the 2 units.

Unlike most who have jumped on the ipod craze, I don't need or have a use for one, and thus do not own one.

As for the Z1/Z2, The HDD is removable from the front of the head unit, I am assuming by that, that you can upgrade the HDD to a larger one giving more storage space!?

What does the MyGig system do that the Z1/Z2 doesn't? Other than the uconnect, which the Z1/Z2 will do with a bluetooth add-on.

This will actually be going into my Dodge Ram MegaCab, Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of the MyGig unit will work/fit in the Dodge Ram's?

iPod Nano - $199-$249 30GB iPod $249
AVIC-D3 + ipod cable $850-$950 + Ipod- $1150-$1200 Total
Z1/Z2 $1800-$2200, you are STILL saving $600-$700 minimum by getting your own iPod.

Also I do not know how much you have reserached the Z1/Z2, but good luck with your theory about switching the HDD easily and cheaply.

Check out www.avic411.com, you might be surprised on the info you find.

Take a look at the Clarion Max675Vd paired with the Clarion Nax970VD... its anbelievably sweet. Myself, DodgeKnight and jnealsonjr all have these units in our Nitros.

Can you snap a picture of the Nav Screen? I am starting to figure out that the NAV on the Pioneer Z1/Z2 SUCKS.

I don't HAVE to have HDD storage, but it'd be nice.
