Hi I have been to my local Dodge dealership twice over the weekend and have a test drive tomorrow, I love the look of the Nitro and am keen to buy BUT all the reviews such as What car, Auto Car etc give the Nitro low marks SO I have come onto this forum for some independent views from people that already own and drive the car every day, hope you can help me.

Hey again Clint, as you have probably guessed by my user name I'm an English guy. Although I don't live in England anymore, behind the different vocabulary and lifestyle I'm still English, and if for any reason I had to move back to England I would want another Nitro. (in ORANGE of course)
Trust me this vehicle is fantastic, not perfect, but still fantastic. If I wanted perfection then I would join the yuppie crowd and buy a boring BMW 3 series.
But I don't want perfection.
I want a vehicle that is visually breathtaking, fun to drive, eye catching and different. The Nitro is just that.
Ok so the mpg's aren't that good, but you have an option we don't have, that of buying a diesel. There have been some niggling problems, but fixes have been done and soon they will all be forgotten.
So all I can say to you Clint is...forget the reviews, buy a diesel and enjoy driving once again..:Racing:

My Nitro is great. I agree ORANGE is the way to go but the wife likes the red so that is nice also. I personally have no real problems with the vehicle and you sure do get looks in it. Can you get better gas millage, yes but the towing is great and with the 4 x 4 package it sure is sweet.

Weak complaints

Most complaints I've read in articles against the Nitro are weak and meaningless to me. Everyone that's looked at the interior of my Khaki Nitro SXT 4X4 has been impressed and given nothing but compliments.

It's not noisy, it handles well and I have owned my Nitro since early May, 2750 miles on it, no problems and no complaints.

I don't want the Nitro to be rated like a lawn mower, most 'value' for the dollar. In some ratings they compare the Nitro to other very expensive vehicles. If the vehicle meets your requirements, than the Nitro's distinctive appearance should make the decision easy, good luck!

I don't know what those reviewers drove but it wasn't mine, I love it! I just did 2 200+ mile trips this week at an average 70mph ( And I was up to 85 or so a few times with out realizing it) on the highway and the ride is great no wind nose , I went though several rain storms and it was stable and solid all the way! a great vehicle! ( Orange is the best!)

Clint, I've read some not so good reviews, but there are good ones as well. I read and printed the review from Motorweek. Program # 2650. They loved it and so do I.

Go Orange! :4-jump2:

Hi, Thanks for your replies, the only colour I have seen is red so I will ask about orange today, the car that I am having for a couple of hours today is a red CRD SXT 6 gear diesel manual in red, the car I have my eye on is the CRD SXT diesel 5 speed auto in black with extras included, I hope I am not disappointed as my eyes are ruling my head.

What's wrong with letting your head and heart rule your decision making process, just don't let it overrun your pocketbook, LOL!...remember this is a first year model and you can expect some minor problems. The real decision in my mind is do you want the same thing everyone else is driving (how droll) or do you want to have the experience of owning and driving something you love and that excites you. Take it from me, we had a major problem with the first Nitro delivered, but working with a good dealer we overcame that, got another new Nitro and we are happy as little clams! Besides how many of the other vehicles you've looked at generate the kind of excitement and support the Nitro is getting on this wonderful forum?:loser1:

Hi Well I was well impressed with the test drive, I drove the diesel with the 6 speed manual, it was much faster than I had imagined, accelerated up to the speed limit in no time! Then had a trip up the coast road, nice and windey and it handled great, the only negative part of the drive was the diesel had a noisy rattle that popped up every so often, I am going to wait until next week when they have a Nitro with the auto box in the showroom and take that for a drive, but it will take me ages to decide what colour to have

Hey Clint,
Again another englishman but this time in Sydney Australia.

I have a black Nitro CRD with the Auto 5 speed box and both the wife and I (and the kids) love it.

Its smooth, powerful, big, great looking and most of all its fun which in the UK driving usually isn't.

I had test driven Hyundia Sante Fe, Outlander, Terriorty(ford 4L), Subaru Liberty 2.5Turbo, Mazda CX7. I went to the Ford dealer to sign the papers to buy the ford but our luck he was busy, went for a walk past the Dodge dealer, only released that week, saw it, drove it, smiled alot and bought it.

The manual we don't get but the auto is a merc box and runs very well indeed, i tow a 1500KG boat too and it pulls like its a small trailer.

Go for it, i promise you will not be dispointed.
