Hello all, this maybe a silly question, but...

I'm looking to order a new Nitro today. Gonna go to the dealer (that has been very helpful so far) and tell him to put the order in. I'm gonna get a Black SXT 4x4 6spd Manual. With as many options i can on it. He's even gonna order me a black grill instead of the chrome one. So my question is since its a 2008, and its April, will all the previous recalls and kinks and "bugs" be worked out of this one Dodge builds for me? (obviously not including the new ones that might pop up). And are they really building a whole new one from scratch? or is it some previous body and frame or whatever they had sitting around and they just add the options i want to it and then bam, they're done?

I've never "ordered" a car before. Always bought what was on the lot. So i'm curious, and kinda nervous about it. I think i worked out a pretty good price with the dealer when i was "hypothetically" looking to get one last week.

I think you should be ok , mine was built in Feb of 07 and no real problems just the brake recall and a flash for the one time it seem to stall ( no problem sense) and my Transmission has been good . ( just my opinions)

Don't know whether it's the same over your side of the pond, but here in the UK, I bought mine 31st march 2008 (two weeks ago) but the build date was 05/07, so it's nearly 1year old already!!!
Don't let em sell you a 'old' car.
I did question this but apparantly Dodge arn't bringing any more into the UK till all the old ones have gone!!!!

hmm, so when they say "build your own", that doesn't really mean they are actually building it? i'm not sure what you guys are saying really.

Cuz i will be waiting 4-8 weeks on my nitro, i'm assuming its going to be an 08, right?

IMO, I think you will be OK, sounds like your's isn't built yet! Where as me it was 'Take your pick of any one of them 18/20 new ones parked over there'

Good job there was a couple of Red ones to chose from!!!!

ah, i see. Sorry to hear your 08 was built in 07.

But thats good to hear. I think I'll be alright too. I just don't know how "building your own" and ordering and waiting for it really works. Thanks for the feedback guys.

when i get back from dealer tonight, I'll give a quick summary of what they had to say about it...

I have ordered several vehicles over the years as well as purchased several straight off the lot. If the cars are not selling well, then buying it off the lot will often net you a better deal. The dealer wants to get rid of any old stock.

If the cars are selling well, then you might get a better deal by ordering because he doesn't have to floorplan the car...just deliver it directly to the customer.

When you order a car, there is a build sheet that is created that goes with the vehicle down the line to show what options and equipment it is to get. Often, these can be found in the car if you are able to catch it before the dealer does the clean-up.

I ordered my 1979 Trans Am and it took nearly 6 months for it to be built. They had ran out of the rear disc brakes (first year for them on the TA) and that held up the car. I spoke directly to the factory numerous times during this period in attempts to make sure my car came exactly the way I ordered it.

Bottom line, all ordered cars are built according to the order as they go down the line.

Anyway, enjoy your new Nitro....however to get it!!!!

When you order a new one to your specs, it should be built after you ordered it. Now check with the dealer to make sure they are'nt dealer trading for another vehicle that's been sitting on another lot. Their just might be one exactly like the one you ordered. Best way to check is when your vehicle is in at the dealer to open the door and check the build date before you sign any papers. Good luck on the new purchase.

hey MD, as was said b4, ask the dealer to be double sure that it is not a "dealer trade" my nitro was ordered and made to my specs because there was not a dealer anywhere near us that had one on the lot. the cool thing is that when it comes you will not have the dealer emblems on the rear and the window sticker will not be affixed...ours says "this vehicle was especially built for Joseph and Tammy....last name" it is too cool and has the build date on it! good luck and keep us updated!

I keep hearing stories of how lousy people are treated at the dealership or how the dealer won't do the service or fix a problem.

I bought my Nitro at Gladstond Dodge in Gladstone, MO and I couldn't be happier. While I have not always had wonderful service at some of the other dealers I have purchased from, normally it is not too bad.

However, with Gladstone, these folks have been way beyond good...they have been great. Besides coming down over $6,000 on my Nitro, they also installed the trailer hitch for free. Even though I bought my SLT loaded for less than any other dealer would sell be a base model, they have still treated me well.

I had to have the roof rails replaced and one of the clad wheels replaced and the service department has been great. Every time I take it in, I get a call the next day asking if all was well. Then they send me a survey to fill out and when I take it back to the dealer, they give me my choice of a free oil change or a $25 gas card.

Not sure how it could get much better...guess that is why they are a Five Star dealer.

My take is that it really shouldn't matter if you order the car, take delivery of one in stock or how much you pay. If the dealer wants return business and referrals, they should be willing to take care of you. :D

Did the dealer do a computer check of other dealers that may have the vehicle with the options you ordered? They can do a swap with another dealer, I've done that before also. You'll get your machine much faster that way too. If its on a lot you can have them check to see if there are any recalls on it before you accept it .

Bunk, yea, they did a computer check.

There are no Black SXT's with 6spd manual with the stuff i want on it anywhere near me. So i'm fine with ordering it. I still have a car right now, thats completely paid off, so i can drive it till i get my Nitro.

From meeting with the dealer and sales guy last week, they are pretty eager to help me. Atleast they "seem" like it. Maybe its cuz i'm dangling a sales carrot infront of them, i don't know. ha.

I've mentioned in live 40 min from their shop, so hopefully they'll throw me some extra incentives so i keep comin back to them. We'll see.
