Hi,

My meaning was to ask, if when i drive using the 4x4, does it have "low & high"? if yes Is it "automatic"? (since there isn't
a plug to operate it)

Thanks,

SP
Hi there,
Do you mean low and high like in low range and high range? The 4x4's are all single speed transfer cases as far as I know. And if they are not, I will be corrected shortly. :Racing:

Your correct adot, it is a single speed transfer case with no high or low. There is only the tow/haul button which uses lower gears.

MP 140 Single-Speed Full-Time Transfer Case —
Operating Information/Precautions
The MP 140 is a single speed (HI range only) transfer case
which provides convenient full-time all-wheel drive. No
driver interaction is required. This transfer case employs
an inter-axle differential that divides engine torque almost
evenly with 48 percent torque to the front axle and
52 percent torque to the rear axle, this allows the front
and rear wheels to rotate at different speeds, on all road
surfaces. The Brake Traction Control System (BTC),
which combines standard ABS and Traction Control,
provides resistance to any wheel that is slipping to allow
additional torque transfer to wheels with traction.

This is incorrect, even though there is a LOT of Dodge info out there saying it's true. No Nitros have full time 4WD. All 4WD models use the MP143 part time transfer case. It is still single speed (no high/low range), but it can't be used on dry pavement.

Yes I should have pasted the info for the MP 143 Transfer box as well but the point of this thread is whether the Nitro has 4WD high and low, which it doesn't regardless of which box is used.

MP 143 Single-Speed Part-Time Transfer Case —
If Equipped
Operating Information/Precautions
This is an electric shift transfer case and is operated by
the 4WD Control Switch (Transfer Case Switch), which is
located on the center console. This electronically shifted transfer case provides 2 mode positions: 2 (rear) wheel drive high range (2WD) and 4
wheel drive high range (4WD LOCK). The electronically shifted transfer case is designed to be driven in the 2 wheel drive position (2WD) for normal
street and highway conditions (dry hard surfaced roads).
When additional traction is required, the transfer case
4WD LOCK position can be used to lock the front and
rear driveshafts together and force the front and rear
wheels to rotate at the same speed. This is accomplished
by rotating the 4WD Control Switch to the desired
position - refer to “Shifting Procedure” for specific shifting
instructions. The 4WD LOCK position is designed for
loose, slippery road surfaces only. Driving in the 4WD
LOCK position on dry hard surfaced roads may cause
increased tire wear and damage to the driveline components.

Yes the Nitro does not have a low range, but first gear is quite low and at least in my 6speed, the crawl ratio is almost as slow as some small SUV's in Low range.

In first gear I can drive as slow as 2 MPH and I can take a decent grade at 1000 RPM. The Nitro is not meant for heavy-duty 4-wheeling, but it can hold it's own for an occasional off road venture.

What is more important is that the Nitro is true 4WD not AWD like many crossovers.
