This is a question for I guess all Dodge owners, I can't believe I just discovered it. My husbands 04 Cummins Diesel truck brokedown yesterday and while playing with google, I ran across what I think are Dodge disgnostic codes. After telling him to turn the key 3x, I could actually look up the code and tell him what was wrong with the truck. Now before this truck we had a 96 one just like it, does everyone but me know about this little trick?

I ask this here because I do have a Nitro too, and I only lurk on the Cummins forum & other forums. The thread I was reading was actually about a 98 Durango, but since is was what I told him, I assume it works on all Dodges. Is there a Dodge person out there that can tell me why no one ever told me about this trick? Please don't say I just overlooked in the owners manual, which I could have.

I can't believe no one on here has any input on this? I would think someone would know something, I have also helped someone else figure out what is wrong with their dodge. Considering I have no mechanical skills what so ever and I'm blonde. I think this is information every dodge owner would want.

I just started playing with google when his truck broke and ran across a thread on a forum that basically said to get the code you turned the key 3x and the code showed up on your odometer. Then I googled the code+Dodge and found out what it was. In the rush to go get my husband I didn't bookmark it, but later I found this site that I did. Because it has all the codes listed, and it seems to have been around awhile. Scroll to the bottom on the thread, I would think anyone with a dodge would want to know this. I know I do next time I need a mechanic.

I tried to post the link and it won't let me, I could post the codes but there are a lot. Don't know if I'm allowed to use that much space on a thread.

That has been around for a while. Being new to this forum, not sure how many have heard of it or not. However on many of the other Mopar forums, you'll find the key switch and code results. Since I own a programmer with code reader built in, I've always used it, plus I can reset the codes. The programmer has helped me more than once during trips cross country when the elevation plays tricks on the vac sensors and other strange things. I highly recommend getting a code reader with the reset function. It will keep you out of the "limp home mode". If the auto continues to trip a MIL (dash engine light) then you in fact have problems. Most of the time you can reset the code error and it will run as normal.

I thought that to be common knowledge. I guess not.

These days most auto parts places will also check the codes for free and even reset the ones that are short term. (like time to change oil or gas cap left off) so although it is nice to know, a quick trip to AutoZone or the like will do the same thing.

I knew the dealer or shop with a computer could find the codes. I didn't know the information was there with a turn of the key. Most people that I know that have a dodge didn't know it either.
