Radio Connector Pinouts

188760 Views 130 Replies 52 Participants Last post by  Nitrogen
Here's a start at documenting the connector pins for the radio. The single-CD radio should only have C1 and C2, while the 6-disc and navigation radios should have all three connectors.

I have drawings of the connectors that indicate which pins are where, but do not have a way to post them yet. Once I do I will update this with both that and a picture of the back of my 6-disc radio when I get a chance.

The first column lists the pin, the second contains the wire gauge and the color combination, and the third its function as listed in the service manual.

Here's the complete radio connector pinouts with drawings to identify each connector. Once I've got pics of the back of the radio I add those also.
If anyone has requests for specific connector pinouts or component locations within yor Nitro just ask.

It took awhile, but here are the images of the back of the radio and its connectors:

Connecting aftermarket LCD to video out

I have a Nitro on order with Mygig. Without having it to play with, it's hard to tell exactly what can be done with these pin-outs.

I would like to possibly take the video output of the head unit and run it to an aftermarket display in the headrests, instead of the $1,200 factory option.

Also, I'd be curious if there is a video input to the head unit? It would be a great option to install a back-up camera.
Ok fellas I took the liberty of combining the info above into a PDF so you can print it out easily and use at your leisure. I hope this helps anyone out who wants to print it to use while in the vehicle doing some wiring. Thanks to NT and BCH for the original info...

Hey guys,

I am installing a new GPS Navigation system that requires I tie into the vehicle speed sensor for position calculations. Does anyone know which wire it is coming out of the ECM? I would appreciate the help so I dont have to probe every wire to figure it out.

Thanks

John
Factory Upgrades

Great Job Nitro Tech, BCH, & lilsalmon!

Kicker will be providing detailed audio integration specs (audio voltage levels etc) in a training session to be held march 30th thru April 1st, I will pass that information along once I recieve.

Mopar/Kicker Upgrades 77KICK10, 77KICK15, & 77KICK19 are the ones available for the Nitro. The upgrades replace factory speaker locations , amplifier, and add a dual 10" square sub woofer enclosure.

Just did that to 7 inch display

Go down a few posts and print out the pdf. I took a yellow rca cable, cut off one end took some computer motherboard pin cables and soldered the cut end of the rca cable to that and connected the pin ends onto the pins in the back of the head unit on the C3 socket. Video common is the ground on the rca, and video signal is the center cable on the rca. The finished end of the rca routes nicely down the right side of the console riser. Put a dvd in the slot 6 of the cd changer and video came out automagically. I wired up the video 2 the same way but got no output, it must be selectable from the menu on the head unit.
Great! Thanks for the info. Does anybody know about an input for backup camera? I don't see anything on the pinout that looks like an input. Thanks.
I don't think there are any video inputs on the factory headunit, but I may be wrong.

OK, I know this has been asked, but it hasnt been answered. I do not have a wire harness and need to tie into the illumination for headlights on and off, to have dimmer control on my Aftermarket Head Unit. Does anyone have any info as to which wire we tap into for that? I know the EIA states it should be Orange/White, is it safe to say if I tap into the Orange/White on the Factory Harness, that would be the illumination control to have my headunit dim when headlights are turned on?
You cannot tap into the illumination of the vehicle for an aftermarket headunit because it is controlled through the CAN BUS.

The only way to utilize illumination is by purchasing a harness. The only one out that will have the illumination wire is the CHTO-03 by Metra.

U-Connect Pinout

I've got a question for you guys.... When I bought my nitro, one of the tech's and I plugged in to their little computer to figure out how to enable the U-Connect system. He looked at the build sheet and figured it didn't come with the U-Connect system.

I took out my radio today to connect to the radio's video out. In doing so, I noticed the U-Connect wiring harness connected on C1. If it doesn't have U-Connect, what's the deal with this connection?
There are a few other parts that enable the u-connect system.. mainly a u-connect enabled rear-view mirror and a few other items... do a search for u-connect here as a couple of guys have discussed this in detail.

Illumination Wire Connection

Illumination can be found without using a harness in the center console at the gear shifter bulb, or at the 2 wheel/4 wheel drive selector switch.

Illumination wire is Orange/Gray stripe. If tapped at the bulb itself you will have to use a voltmeter to determine the correct Blue wire.

KickerNitro, you are partially correct on the illumination. On a 42RLE transmission the panel lamps driver circuit is E12 OR/GY. On a NAG1 which would be found in an R/T with the 4.0L there is no panel lamps drivers at the shifter connector.

I wonder if it is possible to also get illumination from the illumination circuit of the climate controls or switches located below in the dash?
I have my dash apart and these colors don't match up. Pin 2 is white/orange and Pin 13 is white/gray. hmmm....
