All you tech whizz kids out there try to explain this one...

My Nitro's radio can only receive certain frequencies, in our country we have radio stations with frequencies that end on uneven and even numbers. When I got my car it could only receive stations of which the frequency ended on a uneven number :shy:.

Here is where it gets freaky, they replaced the radio after the dealer said it cannot be reprogrammed, but guess what... the new radio does exactly the same thing. Now the dealer is telling me that the radio picks up a signal from the car which tells it to behave in this way :(:( I dont even know if that is possible.

Any advise... anyone...

Hi..............

According to a Wikipedia entry, the FCC assigns station frequencies in 0.2MHz chunks, and the middle of that chunk is the odd number. So, our stations are 95.7, 100.3, and such.

It's possible that the radio is set for the US frequencies, and therefore only tunes to the "odd" numbers.

What about other countries? Don't know! Hopefully, someone else will have more info!

As long as we are NOT talking about MyGig the available FM-frequencies are not reprogrammable whatsoever, it's all hardware.
I have an SLT directly-imported from the US to Germany and changed the original radio (REQ, 6-disc-DVD) for the european equivalent (RET). All the FM-frequencies were available at once.
BUT the player still won't play any Region 2 DVDs.
I'm still figuring out how to set the main country-code in car's system.

I don't know if it could be the same trouble, but I was talking to my Dodge dealer (Italy) just the other day and I was telling him I'm thinking about buying a new radio for my Caliber and he recommended me not to buy a radio from the US because we have total different frequences. He told me that another customer once bought a radio from US and installed it on his Compass ... the radio works with cd ... but he can't receive most of our radio frequencies :shakehead: ... so now he is using it only as cd-player and .. clock !

st4s:
I guess with DVD it is more or less the same, different region wont work in all kind of radio. Not the same but I'm thinking for example about the Playstation games; in Europe for european Playstations we have PAL games , while US games are NTSC ...
oh and welcome to the ForumZ :)

You need the radio that is in the England model. Probably the Diesel engine would be a safe bet as they dont have those in the US.

You have a US spec radio, Radios in the US only have odd numbers. 99.5 97.9 100.3 104.5 106.1

Only odds, thats why your radio is "being strange", its just not strange to us over here lol.
