Radio just plain sucks

Has anyone else had severe issues with radio reception? I've got the 6-disc changer stereo system, and the radio can't pull in local stations five miles from the transmitter. I've been going back and forth with the dealership since October when we purchased the Nitro, and they've gone to the engineers at Dodge, and no one seems to be able to come up with an answer. The GSM at the dealership finally authorised a replacement of the entire system with the upgraded Sirius-capable system, but now apparently that system has been on backorder from Dodge for weeks. Thank god the thing has a plug-in for an mp3 player I guess. But it's already soured an otherwise nice vehicle for us. My wife's already said she refuses to ever buy another Dodge.

I haven't had any problems with reception. Sorry to hear you're experiencing that, and can understand the frustration. At least it seems they're willing to work with you, and I hope the replacement parts work as they're supposed to. By any chance have you or the dealer tested out another Nitro with the same radio configuration to eliminate the very small chance that it's not faulty equipment?

Yep,they've already replaced the unit with another identical one once, tested the entire system, and taken out several other Nitros. Seems like it's a problem inherent to that system. (which might explain why the upgraded replacement is on a 'nationwide backorder') :shakehead:
Do you have sirius in your sys, & is that also on the fritz.

Don't have the sirius system; that's the one they're going to upgrade me to if they ever get it in off of backorder.
Question for you all... Do you think I should contact Dodge corporate about this? We've been told so many things from the dealership and have spent many hours either on the phone or in the service waiting room, and still have no solution. The dealership is very pleasant and keeps promising that they'll call, etc., but I'm starting to feel like I'm getting a runaround...
Does anyone know if the antenna is amplified? If so, you might have them pull the antenna and replace.......
Yeh, my nitro has terrible radio reception also. I noticed that right away but summed it up to location.i am going to check with the dealer on this issue as soon as it is out of the paint shop...Cheers

No, the antenna isn't amplified. All amplicification takes place in the radio.
Sharkbait, I know you said you had the entire system checked , but (may sound silly), have they checked all way back to the antenna. Maybe it isn't hooked up!
I'll go with DAYLEY on this your ant. might not be hooked up or it could be bad, They will go toes up on their own.:thk:
