Planned to upgrade my stereo and ran into an unfortunate bump...

I'm not to sure what I need at this point and I don't know what the cable with the yellow cap is:

As an added note, is the way the wiring is in this next pic OEM or might this have been done some time after? (My Nitro's Pre-Owned):

Would really appreciate the help ^-^/

What you're going to need is an adapter, more or less. That is definitely the OEM hookup and the adapter (it's really a wiring harness) I believe would hook into that and go into the new head unity. I've been looking into new units for some time now and have realized you have to buy adapters for newer stereos. Unfortunately, there are many different ones depending on what head unit you have.

The best thing I can advise is go to: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=/Car/outfitmycar/mycar.aspx

From there, put in your year/make/model, then search the unit you have and see if they have it on there. If so, they list the recommended installation gear for each unit, which they sell. If they don't have the unit you purchased, they have advisers that are fairly helpful and hopefully could point you in the right direction. I've found that site to be fairly reliable.

Hopefully you can figure out what you need so you can get your new stereo up and running. Others may pop in with better expertise, but this is the best I can say.

You definitely need an adapter for the FM antenna, which will go from the white connector to the lower right hole in your new unit in the first picture.

Then, as noted above, you will need a wiring harness that converts the OEM NITRO harness to the back of whatever unit you bought. I believe I cut off the factory harness and spliced all my wires to the harness that came with the unit. I do recall I had an issue with the powered antenna. Two wires need to be spliced to one to get your powered antenna to work. Otherwise, you won't have radio. They were both blue.

I'll try and find more.
