OK, I consider myself a person capable of figuring out how to program my home DVD player, but for the life of me I can not find the option to set my DVD MP3 player in my Nitro to play random files... I checked the manual but can not find the option.. I have the standard system without the video component..

Good question Gunnars,
I checked the manual and found this..

RND Button (Random Play Button) (CD MODE)
Press this button while the CD is playing to activate
Random Play. This feature plays the selections on the
compact disc in random order to provide an interesting
change of pace.
Press the right SEEK button to move to the next randomly
selected track.
Press the RND button a second time to stop Random play.

but I don't have a RND button. Weird eh.
I'm gonna go out when it stops raining and have a look again.

Thanks canadianlimey, that is the same thing I found... there should be a simple option as random play though.. somewhere... maybe it is 'manual' random play .. hehe...
Yes, the rain.... doing this here for 2 days now.. was at the lake with the kids on Friday.. beautiful day.. now this..
Thanks for checking..

Just checked for the RND to see if it's hidden anywhere. Pressed pretty much everything and NO I don't think it's on this model radio. Must be a typo in the manual or maybe something we don't know about.
We need NitroTech's help.....

I just gave up and stoped looking

You guys are right. I have not seen a random play button my stereo either. I have the in dash 6 cd changer and I looked in the manuel as well and then the radio in the Nitro and can't find it. I just figured I did not have the right radio. So if you guys find out how to use please let me know you can pm.

Thanks in advance

My take on "Random"

So I put about 60 mp3 format songs or so on a cd and put that cd into my base level single cd stereo. It takes a long time for the system to read the cd before starting music, it also seems to always miss the very beginning of each song, standard, store bought music cd or computer burned mp3 cd. Then I press RND on the radio to get random play. Very often it gets stuck with the same 6 to 8 songs and pressing the forward seek button for the next song repeatedly will just cycle through the same songs in the same order! Out of the 60+ songs, all in the root folder on the disk - no subdirectories or folders on it at all, there are many that never get played at all while in RND mode. Pretty cheezy software for 2007 considering that most aftermarket suppliers addressed those issues in even their lowest cost models a decade or two ago!

I have the 6 disc SAT radio and I can see the folders as icons on the display when I load MP3 files. I can't however find any "rand" button.

What radio do you have?

No "RND" on REQ Radio

So here's a pic of 2 of the radios available for the Nitro. The REQ radio which is equipped with SAT radio is the same as the non-equipped SAT radio with the 6 disc changer. The RND button is only available on the RES radios. No random on the 6 disc changer.

I don't recall seeing the RES radio as an option on my SXT. Was this only available on the SHT & RT. Is the RES a 6-disc changer?

The RES is just a single CD player. In Canada there is a Nitro SE version, maybe its standard on that trim level. I know the SE doesn't exist in the US. Could be the reason why it doesn't show up as an option for the SXT. :4-dontknow:

Wow it amazes me that you lose features when you upgrade the stereo. I have the single disc since I don't listen to CD's..I have XM so I have the RND button.

My Caliber has the 6 disc and although it does have a random it doesn't have the aux jack for an Ipod! I was so upset!

As for the wiring you wouldn't be able to buy a factory harness that would be to just hook up the sub and amp. Whether the connectors would be there, I'm gonna say, not likely. For the factory sub and amp you will have to make up a harness. Otherwise, I'd suggest looking into a line out to RCA conversion for your radio and use an aftermarket amp and you could still go with the factory sub and trim panel. This probably would be easier.

That harness is used for installing an aftermarket head unit. Thanks for looking. I would be looking to someone like PAC-AUDIO for a line out to RCA conversion. Hope this helps. :)
I don't know what that means :( but it sure sounds like you do!!!
There is so much to learn, it's great to be here on this forum! :wavey:
