Okay i have two problems i need help with my first problem is with my engine or something in that area because when i accelerate when im driving or when im parked i hear this whistle sound and its very loud and very annoying. Does anyone have the same problem or know why it is doing this ?

My second problem is i have the upgraded speakers with the sub in the back and my two rear doors when i have the base even at 4 they make this vibrating sound and not to be immature but like a farting sound and i figuered out its because the plastic part isnt tight enough to the actual metal door. this frustrates me because it is a factory upgrade and when i took it to the dealer they said they didnt make the car theres nothing they can do !

if anyone can help me on these two problems please reply !

thanks

If you have a R/T, the whistle is a problem with all of them but know one can figure out where it is coming from. Check out this thread! As far as the door panels rattling... this is also an issue with all Nitros, and I have the same problem. I have been to two different dealerships and they still rattle. The only fix that I know of is to Dynamat the door panels. Check out this thread!

Welcome to the whistler club! I suggest taking it to the dealership and complaining about it. Do not let them try to convince you that it's "normal", or that it's coming from the intake manifold...

A) It's way too loud to be "intake whistle" and even if it were, it's an unacceptable amount of noise.

B) The noise is actually coming from the underside of the engine, most notably the oil pan/oil filter area.

C) You wouldn't hear "intake whistle" with the throttle closed, but this noise happens above 1500rpm despite throttle position (you can let off the gas and coast, and it'll whistle until the rpms fall below 1500).

The more people that cause a stink at the dealership about this, the more attention Chrysler will give this issue. At this time they claim it's normal, it's from the intake manifold, and it can't be fixed because it's not broken. In reality they've simply mis-diagnosed the problem, not all R/Ts make this noise... therefore it CAN be fixed.

I wish this were true, but Chrysler certainly has not stepped up regarding the shudder problem on the 3.8 L, 4 speed transmission Nitros, after many complaints!

Chrysler is like a hypnotist: You’re getting sleeeeeeepppy, sleeeeeeppppy. When you wake up the shudder problem and whistle noise will seem normal.........one, two, three, wake up!

Mystery Whistle

Up have had my R/T 4.0 since June and within a couple weeks noticed the whistle upon being warmed up and under acceleration, take your foot off the pedal and it stops. Been to the dealer who acknowledges the noise but say nothing can be done. That's bull !! I am convinced it is a leak where the plastic meets the throttle body. I'm gonna annoy my dealer again where the service manager seems to be a reasonable guy until they try to implement the repair identified for the 3.7s on the 4.0. Failing that maybe we need some old school gasket material in this spot. Your not crazy the noise I'm finding is more common than not. :shakehead:

Check how the plastic fits on the metal of the door. If you can get your finger nails under it or even a piece of paper they are warped. Chryslers supplier had a bad mix of plastic for the doors. My front doors were severely warped to the point i could put my hands inside the door from the front hinge. Also, if it gets worse or better with temperature change, they ARE warped. Their is no TSB for this that i have found but my dealer just ordered new panels and replaced them asap.

I have the same issue, dropped my Nitro off today to have the recall on the MyGiG flash done, get the wheels balanced (shudder at 110Km on highway) and fix the sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak in the sunroof when it closes. The service manager at the Carter Dodge on Lougheed in Burnaby BC has the 4.0L Nitro and has the issue but they cannot do a warranty work pass on my 4.0L since the TSB is for the 3.7L fix. Apparently they have a whackload of the same issues coming in, and he said that given the reports and issues, a TSB should soon follow for the 4.0L. He actually owns one too and it has the same issue as well.

The weird thing with my whistle was the other night, it stoppped while driving and I was hopeful only to have it come back the next morning. Who knows....maybe when the cold winter comes, the frigid air will fix the problem. Whistle away people...at least my new exhaust system drowns out the sound somewhat.

1200Km's on mine...and already three issues...although none are true performance based...I would have liked a better start....should have kept my Caliber SRT maybe...

From what SRT4Driver has put in another thread here. page 15+. His dealer replaced the intake and oil pump and a lot more.
The whistle sound seems to be related to the operation of the heater and the oil cooler. I still do not know if he tried bypassing the oil cooler, by disconnecting the watter lines from it and connecting the 2 with a short piece of pipe. If this was done and the sound was still there then we could eliminate the oil cooler heat exchanger as the suspect.
There was also a mention of a 90° elbow that may be the cause as well.

Do a test, have your heater on, get your rig to operating temp, if it whistles turn the heater off and see if it goes away. It may take a few minutes. This would be a KEY to find out if it is related to the cooling/heater watter line system. I believe it did just that on SRT4Driver's tests.

Also, if you can, check the antifreeze density. It could be there is not enough antifreeze and too much watter. Maybe the watter is boiling in the oil cooler? Just guessing here.
I wish there was a 4.0 that whistles near by. I would love to take a look at it.
Unfortunately, I have the 3.7 and no whistle.

What I've found is that if you let the engine start to whistle, and then turn on the windshield defroster (or maybe just the heater), it will eventually go away... it may take 5 to 15 mins of driving though. However there have been times the whistle went away on it's own... for all I know the heater has nothing to do with it. What I do know is, I'm at my witts end...

Also, from what the shop tells me they "removed the oil cooler assembly, and installed the oil filter directly to the block". The problem is, I can't say for sure if they capped the water lines and actually completely removed the cooler, or just left the water lines hooked up and bypassed the oil side only.

Monday morning I'm meeting "my tech", the Service Manager, and a "Technical rep" from Chrysler in regards to the whistle. The Rep wants to hear this for himself and take a look at it before we try anything else... from what I've read here though, all he'd really have to do is pull an R/T off the assembly line in order to hear the whistle because it seems like ALL the new ones do this.

The 3.7 whistle is caused by turbulence in the throttle body due to uneven mating surfaces... they can fix it with some "caulk". The 4.0 whistle seems to be coming from the underside of the engine (crank case?), and at this point there is no word on an actual cause.

Muhahahah!!!! GOOD!!! *rubs hands together* :jok:

Good, maybe he'll be able to help us convince Chrysler this really ISN'T normal.

Nope, bought mine during the cold season... it whistled from day 1.

Sorry to say, but you really should have... it seems they actually care about their SRT line.

SRT4Driver, Thanks for the clarification.
I wish there was someone near me with the whistle.
