The manager at the dealership I bought my Nitro R/T from said the reason for the low availability was because of difficulties with the supplier of the fenders. Not sure if it's true or not, but why then would the SLT be in better supply? Or isn't it? Note that I had already bought the R/T and was there to pick it up, so there was no reason to lie at that point.

few R/T's

That's the 1st I've heard of the fenders. I know that the My Gig was a big hold-up in R/T production. DMC also makes fewer of the R/T model in all their vehicles, because R/T's cater to a smaller group of buyers.

Perhaps steady ongoing stupidity, bad business decisions and a baffling inability to build on success on the part of another American automaker. :loser1:

I mean why would you want to make your potential customers happy and sell a lot of cars???

Same thing is happening with the 4 door Wranglers -- flew off the shelves now no-one can get one.

^^^ What the hell kinda business logic is that??? It might be popular and sell --- so lets limit production?!?!?! :D

A good car company should be able to turn on a dime and increase production on the models that are in demand.

I would have bought a RT in a heartbeat -- but it's definitely not special enough to wait 4-6 mths for. :shakehead:

best info I have came from an article months ago stating that the 4.0l motor has a low capacity for production, that would be my guess.

As well, the comparatively oddball combination of the 4.0 (found transversely mounted in the pacifica) with the a580 tranny (like the Lx cars) versus the normal 3.7 4spd auto setup which pretty much grows on trees probably exacerbates it.

Just my guess.

Take a look around. Chevy has had the RS & the SS in limited production. Mopar has done it a lot with the R/T, the Roadrunner, the Hemi (older ones), etc. Limiting production helps maintain the value.

There are not many big companies of any kind that can "turn on a dime and increase production on the models that are in demand".......... ESPECIALLY companies in any kind of manufacturing. It costs a lot to change tooling, train more people, order more materials, setup vendors, etc. And it doesn't happen quickly very often.

That's the most logical explanation I've heard.
