I read in a post that the 20 inch wheel covers are glued on, is it hard to remove them?? Has anyone done this? is the wheel really rough underneath? I seen a pic of one done without the cover and it was pretty nice I was just wondering how much work did it take to bring the wheel to that condition after? here is a pic of a wheel without the cover .

I don't recall any posts about anyone doing this. I did see that thread where the uncovered ones were for sale, I think it was on ebay.

DMAN- I have begun removing the chrome clading on the 20's manually, It is not fun at all!!!!!!!!! Once you think you have started making progess the plastic snaps. I am now removing the tires and TPS, and attempting to saturate them in some type of adhesive remover. I will let you know how it goes.. And also the surface underneath is pretty smooth I plan to hit them with a steel brush to give the brushed alluminum look, and if that doesnt work im going to sand them even smoother and attemt to paint a black/white/gray camo print onto them.

im also really interested in taking mine off so i can get them powdercoated neon yellow.
Since this is a pretty old thread, you might not get an answer.

There are other members on here who have had their chrome 20's painted or plasti-dipped and they turn out just fine.
I would have to think that the cost and work (as described above) is not worth the end result of actually removing the plastic (but that's solely my opinion). .

Plus it would really suck to remove the plastic, then find out you do not like what is underneath.

yep there have been folks who just roughed up the cladding and painted over it.

There are plenty of people whe complain about the aluminum lip corroding because they are unprotected. If you were to take off the cladding the whole wheel would corrode unless it gets clearcoat or paint.
