Repair on my Dodge Nitro 2011 Heat

Hi all.

I got a question. I bought my Dodge Nitro for a good price. It had already about 175k miles on it. I drove it for about 3 month with 191k miles on it, when the engine gave up on a road trip. I put it in the car shop and I wanted a motor change, since the repair on the motor would have been around 5K. Can you guys check the attached bill and tell me if that is a fair price or if anything is really overpriced? I researched engines and I feel like the price for the engine is 50% overprized. Thank you so much.

PPI sells rebuilt 3.7 engines for $3200 w/a 5 year warranty. $4400 for a 98k used engine with unknown amount of rework sounds steep--and they charged you $670 for a new valve cover gasket? (which would be included with the PPI engine) A valve cover gasket kit is less than $40.

Yah, some things seem a bit expensive on that bill.

Thanks a lot for the reply and the feedback on the bill. I was kind of in an emergency situation since I needed the car back within a few days and the work already started on it. I called them just a few minutes ago to share my researches about parts and so on, but they kind of promise me it is all good and nothing overpriced. I tried to negotiate the total price, but no success. I guess all I can do is leave a honest rate explaining the situation after the repair. I agree with you, the total should be probably not more than max. $6500.

Thanks again.
Thank you.

I got the 2011 nitro for 4k. I put on new tires, brakes, installed new head unit and rear view camera (1 k). Now I pay 7,7k for the motor replacement. Makes total of 12,7k. Overall probably a overpriced nitro by 3k I guess. I will pick it up on Saturday. Not sure how I should react, since I know they charge me at least $1000 - $1500 too much.
Thanks guys for the help. I try to get some money back or at least to get the receipt for the motor to have proof of being remanufactured. I try not to beat up myself about it as you said, which is hard since a coworker told me he could have taken care of it with me for way less and to contact him at any future incidents. It might have been worth to let it ship home. But its too late so lesson learned. Thanks again guys.
