I just received in the mail yesterday a preliminary recall notice from Chrysler regarding the underbody transmission tunnel shield. I have read about the issue of the shield rubbing on the driveshaft which can ultimately hurt the shaft, but I was not aware it was a widespread problem.
The notice says this is for "some" 2007 and 2008 Nitro's and 2008 Liberties. I was just curious if anyone else has received any kind of notice like this.

There was mention of this on the "red" forum, a few years back, where members would be driving down the road and the drive shaft would actually fall out. At the time, there was no official fix, but it must be happening more. The drive shaft is a hollow aluminum tube! :shakehead: Thanks for the post.

Is yours a 2 wheel drive?
At least it is an easy fix. They just add a bracket on the underside to keep the shield from dropping on the drive line when it comes loose.

The problem is the transfer case heat shield falls down and rubs on drive shaft until it cuts the shaft in two. Since there is no transfer case is the heat shield really needed? I'd just remove it and never have to worry about it.

I called the service dept on 6/28/13 and I was told that an inspection had to be done then the fix would take place, everything was completed on 7/3/13 so I hope I'm good now.
Your the first one here to have it done. Can you get a Pic of what they did, for us to see?

If you can get more details on exactly what they do, it would be great.

pics of the fix

Wife took the Nitro today.....waited 2 hrs for this...........I really don't see where this does any good at all.........I post a couple more but I will have to delete something somewhere.......this black plate is just bolted onto the brace and is not bolted to the floor or anything else. 2 hours and it looks like I could have done it in 10 minutes.......with a lift of course....I mean that there bolts coming thur the floor which I guess are the seat bolts that hold the brace up....where can it go???? Added pics to Photobucket.............
