I am currently at 134000 miles on my 2011 Nitro and it’s happened before where it’ll get shaky when I turn the key and it’ll turn off right after. I usually give awhile before I turn it on now so it’ll start fine. But today it turned off on me 3 times in a row while I was trying to start it. I have no idea where to start I already had the battery replaced about 2 months ago and it usually tends to be running fine I keep up with maintenance. HELP!

    Did it eventually start?
Try the key dance. Turn key to run, do not try to start, pause (count 1,2,3,4,5), turn key off, Repeat, Repeat again. Then try to start it.

Yes it eventually starts. I just want to see if anyone else ever had this problem because it’s already happened a couple times and it’s always randomly.

Forgot to mention, I’ve changed both of the abs sensors in the back so I had to disconnect the battery but when I connected the battery again it did it again! When the truck was starting it wanted to turn back off and last time I changed one of the sensors I’m not sure what happened but my battery ended up being faulty and I got stuck at Walmart and needed to replace my battery. That was about 2 months ago. Maybe an electrical problem? Idk.

The wheel speed sensors have nothing to do with starting.
Is this on a cold start or after a short drive restart?

After a short drive. When I changed the sensors it did it on a cold start. And I went out of town once and I hadn’t driven it for a day or two and when I tried starting it, it did it again.

Hard to start when warm: Some folks have had good luck with replacing the cam sensor.

What difference, if any, does the key dance do?

After a long sit cold start. Could be the fuel pump check valve, leaking injector, both = air in the fuel line. Or low fuel pressure.
Key dance should show this, if you key dance and it starts right up.
Alternately, a fuel pressure test and fuel pressure leak down test will show this.
It will not tell you which one is the issue. But it narrows it down.

The 3.7 requires plugs changed every 30K miles. Best to use OEM plugs, NGK> ZFR6F-11G.
Platinum or iridium plugs will cause problems with the 3.7.

Doesn’t the key dance only check do codes? I’ve tried it but it doesn’t show me anything. And the truck started fine but yesterday it did it to me again and I learned to just turn the key over and let it sit for awhile at least 10 seconds then I’ll turn it on. Sometimes it starts right up and sometimes it’ll do it again. I’m going to try and go get some fuel system diagnostics done at Firestone see what they say.

    Different dances.
This is to see if the fuel pump is loosing the prime or there is a leaking injector.
Then there is this one... Which is fun to watch and sometimes it will show codes at the end.
HOW-TO: Check your Nitro for sensor bugs. It dances too!

Okay sorry for asking so many questions but after I turn it on is it supposed to give me a code? I tried it on a cold start and it just started up and it didn’t do anything. No codes, nothing.

No worries. Questions are a good thing.
The "key dance"; Turn key to run, do not try to start, pause (count 1,2,3,4,5), turn key off, Repeat, Repeat again. Then try to start it.
    Will not show codes.

What it does, is allow the fuel pump to build pressure and prime the fuel line.

If you have low fuel pressure, or air in the fuel line, it will delay the rig from starting right away. Or possibly not starting at all.

If you key dance (above) and the rig starts right away, that is a good indicator there is an issue with fuel delivery. Be it air in the line, a leaking injector, or low fuel pressure.
It's used as a kind of rough pre-test/Diag process, more then anything.

I had a Cherokee that I had to "key dance", for almost the whole time I had it. It always started so I never looked further into the actual cause. To this day my son still does the "key dance" with it...
