Since my Wrangler HT's (or whatever generic tires they mounted) are getting close to being replaced I have been shopping for some new ones. I take my Nitro off-road fairly frequently so I want something with a little more aggressive tread, and I also wanted some larger wheels.

Here's what I'm looking at right now:

Wrangler SilentArmor

and

American Racing Dodge Nitro Rogue Black Painted Wheel

I just don't understand all the numbers on the wheels. I would like to get the 20" wheels but I don't really know if I could do that without getting a lift with those tires.

Any thoughts? :D

The problem with the wheels is, in order for the tires to fit, you would have almost no side wall on the tire. Not good for off roading!
Even with a 2" spacer lift, there is still a limitation to the tire diameter you can put on the Nitro. 31.5" is pretty much the maximum tire you can put under the front fenders, because the fenders drop straight down.
There are several threads on this issue.
Some have gone as big as a 32" tire but they have had substantial rubbing.

Thanks scar, I'll check out some of those threads.

Ok, checked out some of the threads and very happy I did... What do you think about this:

Sidewall: OWL
Tire Size: LT265/70R17 112R
Warranty: 50000 Mile Limited Warranty
Section Height: 31.6174"
Section Width: 10.7"
Would a 2" lift help with the rubbing?

Yep looks like it should work. That is the same size I'm going to go with when the time comes. A lot depends on the tire tread and how it transitions from the tread to the side wall.
A 2" lift might help, a little if any.
Again, the issue is the back side of the front wheel well. It drops straight down.
Right behind the plastic is a seam (Front floor boards) that prevents you from going larger. Some have cut the plastic to get a little more room, but you only gain about 1/8 to 1/4" if you are lucky. There is one member that took a hammer to the seam and bent it over.... I don't think I will go to that extreme. I want to keep the body integrity. During off roading it will still articulate up into the wheel well.
