Hi I'm new to the forum and I have been the somewhat proud owner of a NItro for 3.5 months.

Here's the issue...my satellite radio has not worked since day one, the dealer told me that it may take a couple days for the purchase to go through and transfer the VIN to me (shouldn't have believed him). So for the last 3.5 months I have had no satellite radio. When you go to pull the ESN off the radio the screen is blank. Here's the kicker...I have had the Nitro in the shop 8 times to have this dealt with and they have replaced everything from the deck to the antenna and I still have the same problem...no ESN number. I was back there today and they said they had no idea what was wrong and Chrysler didn't know either. They tell me that I am just going to have to sit around and wait for them to figure it out and I was told it will at least be another 3-4 weeks.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this kind of problem and if so how it was fixed...I just wish it was enough to get me out of my lease at this point.

Hello. Welcome to the forum. As for your SAT radio, has your dealer checked or replaced the SAT antenna cable? There have been issues with the cable getting pinched and not allowing SAT reception. As for the ESN, I haven't had to retrieve that number before, but isn't that the same number that is on a decal on the top of the headunit? There is a decal there for Sirius ID, its a 12 digit number. :)

The satellite radio I'm dealing with is the built in unit.

Now for some more details. The dealer has replaced everything from the antenna to the receiver and everything in between including those cables...saw it mentioned somewhere that there were problems with them so I specifically asked about those. As for the number on the decal, the last time we tried to replace the headunit we used the number from the decal, but no number was being displayed on the units screen, either when you follow the manuals instruction (hit setup, select satellite radio, and the number should be there) or when we used the factory reset instructions from sirius customer support. Needless to say it didn't work. They tell me that the radio needs to be preprogrammed with the number and display the number on the screen or it won't work.

Sat radio

I am having the exact same problem with my sat radio. Have been waiting since day one for a fix, they have tried a new antenna to no avail. Said it was fixed but when i tried to get the id# it still wasn't there. I guess the tech was to busy to push the three buttons req'd to test it and so gave it back to me the same as i dropped it off. well not quite the same -had dirty fingers all over h/liner. They cleaned it damn quick. I phoned one of my old employee's at the dealership were i used to be and he is trying the tech hotline for a fix. Haven't heard back yet from him.

morgmd: if you can reply to me the part #'s and the lop's from your warranty work order that might help me as well.

Glad yours is working now. By the way when you had your original unit out and had the 12 digit # in front of you did you try phoning sirius and using that to set it up.

thanks

[Yes I did try using the 12 digit number from the second unit they put in (this unit also did not display the ESN) and it did not work.

As for the numbers, they are not to clear on the receipt I received. I have two numbers showing beside where they say it is fixed and the numbers are: 08200405 (satellite radio system)and 82210788 (install kit).
Like yours they had tried replacing the antenna and then the radio and neither worked. When they tried the radio and the install kit (antenna wires and antenna) together it worked. You may wish to check the headliner for finger prints when they are done.

Also they only managed to figure out what the problem was after the service managered pulled a diagnostic code while he was on the phone with one of chrysler's engineers (apparently he got nowhere with the techs)

If I can give anymore info let me know I would be glad to help

sirius radio

thanks mrgmd for your info on lop's and part #'s i still haven't heard back from my tech friend on what he might have found out from chrysler tech line.

without giving away too much info on the internet can you give me the dealer code for the place you had the work done. i couldn't figure out if it was your selling dealer or the other one in lethbridge.

if i can't get any help from chrysler i might be able to talk to service manager at the place you had it done and find out exactly what they did. in my experience when multiple parts are replaced and re-replaced sometimes it's a connection problem and sometimes it's bad parts.

thanks again

I had the work done at Lethbridge Dodge...don't have the dealer code handy but I can look it up when I get home. If you do call them you'll want to talk to Patrick, he's the service manager and he was also the one who talked to the engineer at chrysler to figure out eventually the problem.

If you need anymore info let me know, glad to be of assistance.

Sirius Radio

Well I finally got my sirius radio working.
Thanks "morgmd" for your assistance with part# for the wiring(install) kit.
As you will note from the date that it has been 2 months since you gave me this info. The dealership said they would have to contact chrysler when i went in to give them all the info. Thanks to you i practicly handed them the fix on a platter but still it took forever. I think they just didn't care because i didn't buy it from them. I finally got pissed and phoned my selling dealer and talked to salesman and told him i hadn't had the use of sat radio from day one (six months) and asked(told) him he better do something about it. Two days later got phone call from here saying parts were here and when did i want to come in. I didn't even have to phone and activate it. It was playing when i picked it up. Now all i have to do is phone sirius and find out if i have 12 months free from now or if they are going back to my selling date and only have six months left. We'll see what happens next if i get the wrong answer.

Thanks again

Glad to hear you finally got it worked out!!

The 12 months should start from the time the unit was activated, not from the purchase date of the vehicle. I called to double check when they finally gotmine working and it was from activation not sale.

it may only be the dealer activation and not your 12 month free activation. many members got hit with the deactivation a few months after delivery of their Nitro only to have to phone Sirius to get the proper activation done. glad to hear it works anyways!

Glad to hear you guys get everything working...unfortunately, over here in Germany, we can't use ours. But, I do know that mine has an ESN...I found it playing with the radio.

Hopefully everything goes well for me when I get back to the US in Aug. We'll see. :)

sirius radio

Hey guys

Did some more reading on the sirius threads and decided not to phone sirius.
Will wait till dealer activation runs out and then phone. might get some free time that way. Anyway i was so happy to get it back working that i never even looked around in the vehicle. It was dark and i just drove it away. Should have checked it out better. Went for groceries last nite and opened hatch to find headliner trim panel laying on stow and go, some kind of broken clips and dirty fingerprints and crease in headliner. I ass-u-me-ed that they would have known better after the last chewing out they got for fingerprints.
Now i have to go back on monday and wave my satisfaction survey in their face and ask them how they would like me to fill it out.

Anyway blue collar radio rocks ( maybe i can use some words from there) to git her done right.
