I find that around town that I tend to intentionally skip from 2nd or 3rd to 5th gear.

It seems like the Nitro has a broad enough torque curve to pull 5th gear at around 30mph. I just don't seem to need all 6 gears in stop and go driving.

Does anyone else do this?

I would think that this should improve my MPG as I am spending less time in the lower gears. I know some gears have a programed skip shift like this at part thottle to save gas.

Not sure about the NITRO because mine's a auto, but I do the same thing in my SRT-4 though.
Although I love the tranny, I think I would be useful to have a wider spread in a truck so that 1st was lower than needed for daily driving, 2nd was like first and 6th was a Max overdrive.

All things considered I always seem to be able to pick a gear that suits my speed which in the end is what really matters. I especially seem to be able to select a good gear to stay in control going downhill. This is important to me as we spend time in the mountains of Western NC in the winter.

I haven't owned a stick since I left England, but I would do that all the time. Not sure if it saves you money on gas, but for sure it's less wear and tear on the clutch and box..
If you get the revs right you can change without the clutch, not that I'd do it on a new vehicle though.:Racing:

Ken - sorry I'm just seeing this thread - but I have the 6 speed as well and I too jump gears in slower traffic, VERY often skipping 3rd and 5th gear. I've NEVER heard you could throw off synchro's doing this - so I too would like more info on this........I'm not sure if will stop me jumping gears.......I've never driven an automatic as my daily driver, and I've never had problems in 31 years of doing this........driven Chevys, Saabs and Dodges this same way.
