Good evening friends! I’m new here and it’s been really neat to look through the threads to see some of the cool mods and treats you’ve all given to your nitro’s! I hope maybe someday I’ll have an answer to some question someone might have. I apologize if it’s formatted strangely, I’m posting on mobile.


However today I am here asking for your help! My mother has recently passed down her 08’ Nitro R/T to my family as she purchased a bronco, reason being this little bugger included in the photo. It’s leaking what I believe transmission fluid from this line/connector here.

My current problem is I can’t narrow down what part this is. The closest I’ve gotten is the transmission cooler lines, however the ends appear to be much different than what is on this nitro.

Does anyone have an idea on what part this is? Maybe what kind of labor would be involved replacing this or leaving it to a shop? I’m pretty mechanically inclined so I’m not afraid to get in there.

Yes, that looks like the transmission cooler line. That block that both go into farther down I think is the bypass valve.
I believe it uses standard fittings. I think that uses the typical "quick connect" fitting (which is not so quick to disconnect)--you need a tool like this.
I've never worked on those lines, so not sure if they need flares or what on the ends.

hey 2nd, thank you so much for the reply! I’m looking through these links and I can’t help but think that these lines look different than all of those? It appears that after the bypass, all of those have multiple bends in the line, where as on mine, at least to me, it looks to be a straight shot with a 90° at the very end. Where they updated to a new design?

don't worry about the picture not completely matching, dodge sometimes use the same image for different models, your not the first member to show some concerns, but don't worry the lines are correct, but there is a couple of different types, you just need to confirm they fit your year and model Nitro,

PSA: transmission fluid line leak

Took me a bit of crawling under the car and looking and looking why pink fluid was dripping from my front differential. Made SURE the diff had no pink fluid in it (not supposed to). So...after more inspection, looks like that dang line rubbing against the top of the differential caused the...

Hey again friends! I've narrowed down the specific model I need for that cooler line. So my NAG1 transmission needs lines lettered AG

I actually can't believe how deep in sleuth I had to go to find this.

All mopar parts websites I went into listed this as the replacement, but all list it as discontinued and loop back to the 42RLE line as the replacement????? I could just be delirious lol

The part I listed for you, 55037841AK, shows fitment for both 3.7 and 4.0. However, oddly it says it's for the 4-spd 42RLE yet fits the 4.0 R/T (which has the NAG1).

Pretty much all mopar part numbers are <sequence><last two letters>.
The last two letters are the revision number, and for the most part are interchangeable.
When you see the part listing on the dealer sites it will say "replaces ..." and list all the lower lettered revisions--however they will usually still work in most cases.

The part number you showed 55037840AG, pulls up on stevewhite's site, but doesn't show any fitment info, but does call it "oil cooler pressure and return".

The second link you gave for 55037865AH also shows fitment for both 3.7 and 4.0.

So you've got 3 potential part numbers:
55037840AG
55037841AK
55037865AH

Both the 7340 and 7865 list as fitment for 3.7 and 4.0, the 7841 doesn't show fitment data.
Worst outcome is you get it and it doesn't fit and have to return it. Maybe a dealer can tell you which of the three is the right one--maybe email SW parts depart. and ask.
