Tuner Special: Startech Dodge Nitro Gets Mean
Date posted: 12-08-2006
ESSEN, Germany — Startech, the Brabus affiliate that focuses on American vehicles from the Chrysler group, has waved its performance wand over the Dodge Nitro, unveiled here at the Essen Motor Show.
Startech starts with its SD3 kit for the 2.0-liter common-rail turbodiesel that's offered to European customers. Designed for easy dealer installation, the kit hikes output to 180 horsepower and torque to 266 pound-feet.
Exterior tweaks include new front and rear fascias and new rocker panels. The rear features cutouts to accommodate a Startech sport exhaust system. The tuner also offers custom five-spoke alloy wheels in sizes up to 20 inches.
Customers can opt to trim the Nitro's cabin in a variety of materials, including aluminum pedals, shift knob and door lock buttons, as well as full leather upholstery.
For more information, see the Startech Web site.
What this means to you: The Nitro looks fairly aggressive in stock form; the Startech makeover gives it a wicked stance.
