My Nitro has a problem with the starter, 1 in 10 times the engine doesn't start but starter continues running. The Service department hasn't found the problem.

Do you have this problem? Thanks

Hmmm, trying to understand the problem here...... is your keyboard missing the T?
Sounds like the starter is not disengaging when the engine starts. ??
We will probably have to leave this one to one of our star moderators. But I am like you Dayley, it sounds like the starter motor keeps on keeping on. Another electrical snafu.
I haven't experienced this problem. However, based on the starter circuits of the Nitro I would recommend your service department look at possibly a faulty TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module).
Same Problem

I was wondering if your dealer found anything wrong with your vehicle, if you have taken it in yet. Mine just did the same thing today. Went to start it and the starter stayed engaged turned it off, but it didn’t repeat.

Same Starter Problem

My Nitro is having the same problem with the starter, 1 in 10 times the engine doesn't start but starter continues running. The Service department hasn't found the problem, they replaced a module but that didn't correct the problem. Has anyone who has had this problem have you found out what is the cause?
This really sounds like the TIP module working to start your Nitro. If you turn the key briefly & let go, the TIPM functionality of the ECM should maintain the starter spinning till the engine starts. It's kind of freaky the first time you realize what it's doing. I shut the thing off the first time I heard it.

Check out the search function at the top of the web page & you will find more details about this feature.

Here is a thread discussing it today: TIPM worked this morning
Just re-read this thread. AirJunky is right, this is likely the TIP start feature. Read about this feature HERE:)
