I have a SLT 4x4 w/ the 3.7L engine. I have had 4 episodes now of uncontrollable acceleration when attempting to pass a vehicle. The pedal is not pegged or blocked by anything. It moves freely. But when I "step down" on the accelerator to get up some quick speed to pass, it KEEPS accelerating. NOTHING stops this short of putting the Nitro in neutral and shutting off the engine and re-starting. Brakes slow it down but don't stop it, putting it in neutral keeps the engine revving at 4,000 rpm, turning on and off the cruise control doesn't help.

I have never had a problem with the engine cutting out. Never had any other problems. I thought maybe it was just a glitch, but this last time almost took me out on a curve.

This is the reason I have never been a fan of the "drive by wire" where there is no actual physical cable between the pedal and the throttle body. It is all electronic now, with a "pedal sensor" and a "throttle body actuator". Either can malfuntion causing this problem. Have it towed to a dealer asap. IMO

My 96 Dodge Ram has done that once before. I thought I was about to die that day. The accelerator got stuck and was going from 65 to about 80 very quickly. The brakes slow it down but then it failed completely. So I put it in neutral and thats was the RPM red line. Back in drive I just turned off the engine and rolled to a stop. I check everything out and the headers are red hot. And you can smell the brakes cooking. Thank god this was at night and no one was on the highway.

Turn it back on and everything was fine.....

But yeah never seen or heard about this on the Nitro....
