These past two weeks I've made the decision to get rid of the Nitro and switch to a Suburban. The real clincher was borrowing a friend's Suburban to tow some motorcycles up to Pennsylvania for a week of mountain-riding. I do like the Nitro, but it just isn't "truck enough" for me. And believe me, for a life-long die-hard Mopar fan to admit this is painful. Here's hoping Chrysler's new owners get rid of the Mercedes influence double-quick.

Yes, it's a lot more money, but it's also a lot more truck ... and they come with a 5 year / 100k warranty out the door

So if anybody is interested in an 7900-mile blue RT 4x4, head to For Sale, all I want is payoff -- 24K. My setup would be 31K MSRP.

One interesting note -- my Nitro will be for sale for only about a week. The Chevy dealer wants it when my Suburban gets here. Based on their research, they will price it at $28K!

Resale on these things appears to be pretty good.

This is the main reason I'm listing it for sale at all -- maybe somebody somewhere can save a few grand buying it directly from me.

The Nitro is more inline with the Trailblazer than it is a Suburban. The 1500/2500 series Dodges are more compariable to the Chevy. If you're looking for more truck, you should take a look at a Power Wagon or Mega Cab.

I've got an 06 PW Quad Cab 4x4. The Suburban has a more interior room, but even the 3/4 ton Burb isn't as much truck as my PW or a 2500 Mega Cab. For hauling power the Cummins can't be beat.

I guess it's kind of unfair comparing a GM 6.0L to a 6.7L turbo diesel, but I'd bet even the standard Mopar truck engine (a HEMI! :D) is more powerful than the Chevy vortec.

I just sold a heavy-duty 2500 V10 Ram at the same time I picked up the Nitro. I don't need THAT much towing, but I need more than the Nitro is capable of. Going up and down the mountains through Virginia, I started imagining the Nitro's V6 pulling that trailer, and it didn't sound like a lot of fun.

Plus the cargo area just isn't big enough for me for day-to-day use. I thought it would be, but I misjudged, that's all. A pickup would do the trick, but an upcoming project means I'll need a people-mover for the next two or three years, too. The Suburban is probably the only realistic candidate for my needs right now.

I still like the Nitro a lot -- I think there is a lot of potential there -- but it isn't right for me. I do expect it to fall into that short list of about a third of the vehicles I have owned that I'll miss after I get rid of it...

Too bad you aren't in Ohio you could buy my friend's new Suburban. He hates it and he's always owned Suburbans for the last 10 years. He has complained about the fit and finish, too many blind spots, and having the worse gas milage he's ever seen.

Just keep the Nitro. I have a black Suburban 2500 454 and a black Nitro. They are both great trucks, but when I am not towing or hauling, my Nitro is more fun to drive.

For a Mopar fan I would have thought you'd consider a Durango or Aspen, both bigger & more powerful than the Nitro.
Good luck with the 'burban. My brother has one for sale as we speak.
I did consider the Durango, but I need to take some time away from Ma Mopar and wait for the Mercedes influences to die out. I really believe Mercedes was the worst thing to ever happen to Chrysler.

I'm getting a new 2007 in a few days. They've done a lot towards improving fit and finish -- I agree everything before 07 was awful. As for mileage, I just finished putting over 2000 miles on a year-2000 Suburban and I was happy with it. After owning that Ram and averaging 9 MPG, I'm pretty easy to please. My Nitro's mileage isn't anything to write home about.

I would look at an Excursion before a Suburban. I work on many makes and models and have come to the realization that GM vehicles fall apart pretty fast. Thank God for the warranty, cause you will need it. Just a shame it probably wont cover the loose, sloppy interior parts that stop fitting after a year or 2 in the sun with normal use. I see it over and over, its a shame.
Anyway, good luck. Sounds like someone will get a great deal on an RT.

That's what he's got is a 2007 Suburban. Go to www.chevytalk.com and look up the "2007 and newer trucks/suburban" section and you'll see the same complaints there too. He loves the way it looks but hates just about everything else. MAKE SURE TO GET ONE WITH LEATHER because the cloth seats are just lint traps.

As far as Ford stuff really they are all about equal these days. Depending on makes and models you could have any of the big 3 in just about any order. I own/operate a bizz that sells aftermarket stuff to deales like remote starters, dvd units and the like. From what I've noticed is that it seems as if Ford and GM has declined a bit in the initial fit and finish. GM's stuff is normally interior issues. Ford has been serious issues with leakage from body plugs and windshields. There's almost not a time that I work on a f150 that's got maybe 2k miles on it and you can see where stuff has dripped down inside the car. In fact, I just had a 2004 Explorer in that the locks completely quit. Here, there was a huge spot where the seam sealer hadn't covered the whole area around the driver's side footwell. 3 years of road grime and salt had gotten on top of the main harness that runs down deep inside the rocker. Well, the salt had eaten its way through the connections in some wiring causing a short. DCX on the other hand I think has made vast improvements over the last few years. I think their biggest problem atleast around here is still rust. I had bought a 2002 Liberty limited brand new and had it just about 3 years. In that time, it rusted horribly around the rear hatch from the inside. Other that and a few recalls it was a great little SUV.

Geeze!!! sorry for the long post here guys:SHOCKED:
