OK, my name is ottawanitro and I've become a detailing addict since I've purchased this Nitro. Seriously, it's been a long time since I've gotten enjoyment out of cleaning my vehicles. My wife thought I was nuts as I have collected an overflowing gym bag full of products the last while, but she is enjoying driving a spotless car so it's all good. Her work colleagues have asked her twice now if her 3 year old Honda was brand new. Anyway, I wanted to post my opinion about the synthetic waxes vs the natural carnuaba (sp) waxes and see if anyone shares it or if I'm just weird. I have used both the Turtle Wax Ice and now the Meguiars NXT 2 synthetic waxes. I love the fact that the Ice can be applied over any surface and trim without staining. It's quick and I'll always keep a bottle for fast shining. Both of these products leave an incredible shine and reflections. But the more I looked, the more I thought that the finish seemed sterile to me, it leaves almost a "silver" tinge to the finish. Keep in mind I have a Black Nitro and a dark blue Honda. It's like there's no warmth to the dark colours. I switched to the Megs Gold Class and I'm much happier. The black seems darker and has more gloss. What you give up on shine, you gain in warmth. The synthetics have their place, but I think I prefer the old school look. Does this make sense to anyone else or is my wife correct; I'm getting stranger. If it does make sense, are there better natural waxes out there? My name is....

I have not tried synthetics, but I will give ICE wax a try on my black Nitro and see if I see the same effect that you mention.

My Nitro is garage kept, so my wax is not stressed. Most of the time I use Eagle one Nanowax which is a spray on Carnuba. I get a deep warm shine with little effort and it also does not leave a white residue. I was old school with paste (real paste like Johnson's wax not cream) but I am sold on this stuff. You may want to give it a try for quick touch ups.

I use both the ICE paste and liquid, plus the quick detailer. I've use a lot of different carnauba waxes during the years (and there are a lot, LOL) and was stuck with Turtle Wax Emerald Series. My 2001 dark green PT Cruiser loved that wax, but ICE, with no residues even improved the shine. I also have a 2002 tungsten gray Mustang and the paint is like a mirror. The Nitro is bright silver, and it really is bright after an ICE treatment. I'll stick with the syntethics for a while.l

ottawanitro you are right on track.

Carnauba waxes are the gold standard in car detailing. They are a natural material (and an ingredient in Tic Tacs:chuckle:) and will always have their place. Almost all the companies are coming out with synthetic waxes such as Mequiar's NXT Wax and Mother's SynWax. For lighter color cars, metal flake, pearl, and complicated paint jobs they really bring out the shine (POP) and maybe last a little longer than carnauba. Carnauba is great for dark colors as it makes it look like the paint is a foot deep and it is cheaper and gives you the comparably the same amount of protection just doesn't last quite as long. Carnauba has been out since metal flake was the aftermath of a fender bender. Both can be used by anybody and both are used at the elite of car shows and concours just depending on what people like.

Use what you like as long as it makes you happy.

No pain no gain.

In your case kid, I would say the synthetics are a good idea. That extra metallic sheen is great on a silver car.
I am sorry, but the pride in my chest after an all day detail/wax is awesome....esp when a guy doesn't be;ieve I did it myself. the paint repair guy that fixed the crappy repair said who does your nitro, I have never seen anyone was the fender wells.....uh, me, he was shocked.

I like the mequiar's gold glass paste, mirror glaze: swirl remover and show car glaze and of course the quick detailer

so I am a meguiar's girl!
