Hi All

I test drove the top of the line diesel model today. 2.8L CRD SXT. Thats the top of the line down here.

I've never really had a diesel vehicle before and I was quite impressed. Acceleration was pretty good. Just as good as my current Honda CRV. I reckon. Although you know by the sound of it, it is Diesel. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, it just sounds more like a truck!

5 speed Auto seems pretty good. Got it on the highway and at 110km/h it was sitting just over 2000 rpm. Quite quiet once at cruising speed. Steering at high speed was a little sensitive but you'd get used to it. Only thing which I think everyone notices here is the accelartor seems a lot further back than the brake which is weird. I thought seats were comfortable, better than CRV as well.

Wife and I love the look of it, just something different than the standard looking CRV, Territory, Captiva's, CX-7 etc.... Just have to find a good deal now.

I think you will like the Nitro

My previous ride was a Honda element and if Honda was dealing I would have a 07 CRV thats how I got into the Nitro and I am glad I did. Yes the seats are more comfortable and the ride is better and no wind noise. I did enjoy the element except on the highway in windy weather it was a handful to keep on the road. But the Nitro really has the "fun factor". Good Luck with your negotiations and keep us posted! ;)

Can I ask some questions?

I personally would love to have it in a diesel, since I was driving a 3500 Cummins before this vehicle, which got close to the same mileage for a much bigger vehicle. I keep getting in the Nitro and waiting to start,:shakehead: I am very careful pumping gas, afraid to grab the wrong handle.

What kind of mileage does a diesel Nitro get? How much do they cost?

To the former Element owner: Don't you think they look like a toaster? I don't mean to insult anyones choice in vehicle, but I chuckle every time I see one, actually ask the Honda salesman who bought them. My husband wants to put fake styrofoam toast on top of them especially if you can find a silver & black one. JMO

Yea kind of, I called it a Amish car (kinda looks like a buggy) or a Japanese hearse, but it was fun for a while and useful for cargo! and mine was black ;)
I actually don't think the black looks too bad, I must be seeing older ones and they are usually a real ugly green. My husband who hates them is actually the one who picked out the Nitro, which I think is a little boxy. I keep telling him people are going to think ours is a toaster car, since it's silver. Black sure looks good clean but after 2 black vehicles I don't think you could give me another one.

First let me apologize, we kind of hijacked a thread. and to Nitroponey yes I had a 80 AMC Eagle that was black too its a great color but hard to keep looking that way. To at least get back to Diesels I hear a radio show the other day and they were talking about the new low sulfur diesel fuel in the USA and that it has only the absolute minimum lubricant in it and that injectors and fuel pumps will get about half the life if an additive is not put in by the owners, Any thoughts gang? :thk:

Mossy, I presume you mean the accelarator was further away from you than the brake?

Ian
Yes, further back or away from me. Anyway you want to say it!!

Have you found the same?

I have a 95 Cherokee and have the same prob. I put some padding on the gas peddle to bring them equal.

Test drove the SXT Nitro today and among the exitement now I think about it, I think this may be a similar setup.

Get the Nitro in Nov!!:ura1:

One of the biggest reasons we haven't had cool diesels in NA is because the US fuel has been too dirty. The Euro diesels use multiple injector systems -- one injector per cylinder - the injectors are very expensive and the dirty diesel clogs the injectors and the dirty diesel also causes poor emmisions.

Yes the fuel has lower lubricity but Europe has been using it for years.

I have a VW Golf TDI -- love it to death -- and it's not uncommon to have a TDI in Europe that has close to 200 hp and 300 ft lbs of torque out of a 2 litre engine that still gets 50 mpg

Really? That is interesting. I didn't think you would be able to change something like that. I have no idea about cars though. You sound like a mechanic?

So you get one in November? What model SX/SXT and Petrol/Diesel?
