I am interested in any suggestions regarding engine performance. I am happy with my Nitro's performance everywhere but the highway.
Get up and go is fine until you get up to highway speeds. If I am doing, say, 55+ mph and decide to pass someone I need to be very patient while waiting for the engine to decide to pick it up a bit. This one flaw is the only negative so for regarding my Nitro. You step on the gas and then start counting. Jeeze, do I need to put in a reservation just to get access to overdrive? Is this common?:confused:

Hiya!

You may want to consider doing the transmission Quick Learn thing ... set aside a day where you can put 100 miles on it, and "Drive It Like You Stole It" ... I've posted some tips that I think worked well for me ... you'll have to hunt down those posts though.

Since re-doing the Quick Learn thing, mine downshifts much more readily, without a huge amount of pressure on the gas.

Worth a try!

keep in mind, the Nitro's gas pedal is not a mechanical attachment to the throttle as older vehicles are. You are sending an electronic signal through the pedal to the throttle.

this is fly-by-wire baby! :chuckle::Racing::wavey:

c4h.....I am laughing so hard....that is too funny,

I have the same problem and my nitro should know no other speed than fast and it still acts like it is riding the short bus in traffic, not all the time, but the every once in a while when you are trying to pass the moron driving slow in the fast lane w 12 car lengths ahead and he realizes you are gonna pass and hits the gas....most of the time I just dive off the freeway and use the feeder then get back on 80 cars ahead....stupid texas drivers....MOVE OVER!!!

I agree the stock 3.7L is a bit sluggish on the highway. I have the drop in K&N and the stage 1 Jet chip and it is a lot more responsive. I can overtake and merge with no problems.
Does your Stage 1 chip help you on inclines? I just installed my Stage 1 and notice NO difference on hills. I'm talking about maintaining freeway speeds when climbing a hill.

There are a couple of locations where I have ALMOST enough power to maintain 60mph on a hill, but not quite, without requiring a downshift. I was hoping (no, expecting) the Chip to give me just that little bit of extra power I needed to climb that hill.

We have no hills in Windsor...:chuckle:...seriously, the biggest hill is the overpass on the expressway...:eek:

I have the same set-up as Limey, drop-in and Jet chip and imo this is the area where it has made the biggest difference, kicking it down at highway speeds. The response is excellent and I've been surprised even at how quickly I can pass.

Mine was very much a slug, especially when I needed passing power. So I installed a cold air intake and I have all the "get-up-and-go" that I need...of course being a woman, I always want more! :D

If you don't want to spend quite that much, I sent an enquiry to a company advertising an electric supercharger. They have them available for the Nitro and come in under $150, cheaper if you live in the US.

I posted the response I got from them here: http://www.nitroforumz.com/showthread.php?t=4303&page=4 post # 32.

I don't know a whole lot about them, and wonder if anyone else does...

Do you think that the jetchip would take care of the Torque Converter Issues that I'm having? Are you able to adjust the shift points? If so, where's the best, least expensive place to get one of these puppies?
