Ok so I'm here to test all this cheesy stuff and drive it around for a few hundred miles to see if it is actually worth a durn. PM me if you would recommend me to test something before you buy it.

All tests are performed on a 2008 Dodge Nitro R/T 4.0 stock engine. All other tested pieces are removed so that I can just test one piece at a time.

The link for the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...m=280213776121&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=018

It costs 24.95 + 7.99 shipping and handling in the US.

This is what it states that I can achieve from this so called "chip in a box"
What You Can Expect from your new Nitro Box Module:
30-35+ Horsepower (Trucks average 40+)
Increase Torque 33+/Ft pounds (Also increases low end torque for towing)
Increased Acceleration ( Faster 0-60 Times, Higher Top end speeds)
Faster Throttle Response ( Faster short track and 1/4 mile times)
2-5 miles per gallon saved ( Better fuel efficiency)
Smoother shifting (Automatic power train only)
This is what I got from this test:
No noticible gains. When I ran a test it was exactly the same as before.

No noticable acceleration or throttle response.
Since I'm guessing that it makes your car seem like it is colder than it is suppose to be... it is going to push more fuel through so I don't know why they would think you save any fuel.
I actually lost .2 MPG
There was also no noticable shifting difference..

I ran this for almost 200 miles. It stated that it may take 50 miles for peak performance. Maybe I installed it wrong but I went by exactly what there instructions stated to do. I sent them an email as to why this might have happened. It has been a week without response. I actually don't think they will respond back.

If you are looking for a computer tweak or whatever this product was suppose to do.. I would recommend Jet products which will be tested later down the road with it's 'recommended' items.

So all in all this particular piece on the 2008 r/t is a waist of money. I cannot recommend something that harms your Nitro.

Hey, a Nitro guniea pig!! :chuckle: J/K Thanks for the feedback. I think that it is a shame that there are so many bogus mods out there. The ones that are useful probably get painted with the same brush. Personally, I choose to stick with name brand stuff, and not "Fred's Performance CPU's" for example. Thanks again for the heads up!:rep:

Yea the brand name stuff is just expensive for the regular consumer, so I'm just going to test off name stuff just to see if it's really worth it. I could buy the good stuff, but I think testing the little things are fun right now and I will build into the bigger stuff as I continue to test

what a buch of lies from this aftermarket company....

a little plastic box is not going to give the nitro huge numbers for power and fule milage

thats all BS.. i bet if you open it up all you will see is just abunch wires that due nothing

but provide a ground loop isolater... i would take it off as fast as possible,

before the part causes any damage or starts a fire

Oh dear...."Snake Oil" again. Did he also sell Dr Wellbody's Elixer?
We all see the ads.
"Fit the module to you battery leads and harness the power of the universe", etc, etc.
The result never changes, just the product. If there is an obvious problem with the fuel mixture being lean, then maybe this product would assist, but then it's better address the problem than to address the symptom.
You were accurate in that the "chip" (5c resistor) modifies the temp signal and so supposedly "improve" fuel mixtures. Yes, you fitted it wrong. It should have had all sharp corners polished off, coated it in grease and forcibly inserted it into the seller's exhaust system! You received the usual result. Sucked in, baby.
Same deal with "coke can cyclones" (pet hate). Some vehicles use the principle as dust precleaners (Toyota & Nissan) to throw particles to the outer collection point and they work ok in that instance, but remove thet precleancer cyclone & you will gain about 10hp at the wheels! You would just need to clean your filter more often.
If they are installed between the filter & throttle body, they cause the air to revolve like a whirlpool for supposed better mixing. Think about it logically. In anything but full throttle the air will be squeezed across the throttle plate, preventing rotation - no "gain". Under full throttle, the unit uses "vanes" to rotate the air. These create friction which can preheat the incoming charge, reducing charge density & performance. They also create restriction which can reduce performance. In our shop, we remove them regularly. The TV ads say "wow - up to 2hp at the wheels!". Every dyno run can fluctuate more than that on the average car. Nasty? They sell for around $200 in OZ.
Same goes for "fuel ionisers", "magnetisers", etc.
If you want gains, purchase a quality product from a reputable tuning company.
Now remember this. The manufacturer went to substantial lengths to produce a product that satisfies many parameters such as Emissions, Consumption, Performance & Engine longevity. When you modify the engine management, you will ususally compromise one or more of these paramaters.
Having said that, most tuners will acknowledge that a Lambda mixture is not the best point for economy or power. It is simply the minimum point for CO, HC, NOX emissions. Richen it up - CO & HC rise, NOX drops & visa versa. Advancing timing can increase performance to a point, then surging (missfiring) can occur which can impact on emissions & economy (as well as damaging the engine or catalytic converter).
Point? It can be fun to tinker with your ride, but later generation vehicles can suffer consequences that can be costly to your pocket and to the environment we all inhabit.
