It was 500 for a motor, or 1200 for new mower. With the assistance of my Mom, we opted for #2.
KingJack, you are correct. I did not even mow before I began the Mods.
I was hoping Craftsman had not changed too much, but in 10 years they changed quite a bit.
First Mod was to put the mud tires on it. Of course Craftsman changed the axle/wheel design. I had to use a set screw shaft collar on the back side of the wheel to keep the mud tires in place. Then I mowed.
Next I had to till the garden for the winter. Of course Craftsman changed how the mower deck attached, as well as making the body shorter. So I had to make a few mods to the tiller frame, and also had to add new hangers on the rear sides of the mower.
But all in all it wasn't too bad.
In this Pic you can see the new front brackets (lighter shade of green) I had to slant them forward to miss the pedals.
I did not get a Pic of the hangers on the rear. Nothing fancy just two 6" pieces of "L" iron with a couple holes to mount to the mower (used existing bolts/holes on the mower) and 2 bolts rearward on the "L" iron to hang the tiller frame on.
If you are interested I can get more Pics of the hangers.
The tiller still runs off the mower deck pulley like before.

19.5 Hp petrol, variable speed trany. The old one was 18.5 petrol, manual trany.
Hard to believe but the 1 Hp more really helps with the tilling. It does not bog down nearly as much when the tiller is running.

Did not do anything special today. Just looked up under the drivers dash and around the floorboards to see if I could finally find where the cold air is coming in from under the HVAC unit in the winter. My wife always complains her side is roasting and my feet are still cold...

Then I dug up the HUGE fern(3'x3') we had planted by our little pond and replaced it with 3 types of low growing bunch grass. Our pond is only 5'x8' so the fern kinda took over. Oh, and two of the gold fish we have in there look like they may be with eggs. We currently have 3 generations living in there. 4-5", 3" and 2". Funny how nature takes care of itself. We started off with 10 for $1 feeder gold fish (10). Lost 2 to disease as can be expected with feeder fish. Then someone had babies and we were up to about 15 (gold fish are cannibals and will eat their young when small). Then 3 big ones disappeared over night (we think it was a coon). More babies and a couple big ones again went away. So now we have 12-13 in there. What is really funny is we have 2 that are almost completely black and none of the originals were black, just gold and silver ones. [IMG]

Whats the advantage of going diesel Vs petrol for your mower?
The Huge fern I dug up, I put in a 5 gallon bucket and set it by our road with a free sign on it. It was there for 3 hours and just found a new home. The Ironic thing was, the person who picked it up was driving a black Nitro!

cheaper to run, i hope. 85% of cars in France are diesel, and diesel is about 25% cheaper than petrol in France.

I remember you mentioning that before. Here in the states the cost of diesel is almost the same as petrol, and a diesel engine is 3 times the cost of a petrol one.
