Hi Guys,

I have a Silver Nitro SLT and was cleaning the vehicle today. I noticed there were tiny orange spots around the Nitro. With a bit of work, it can come out.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Toronto had some rough winter so Im thinking its salt.

Any idea how to get these orange spots off easily?

Oh man! That's serious! You got the orange squashie disease! Wash the vehicle thoroughly with alcohol and wash it a dozen times to get all the ORANGE off! :Na_Na_Na_Na:

My educated response would be rust spots. We get contaminants from the atmosphere and the fall out results in tiny rust spots on the paint. I had a white Xterra before Blue and the spots are very evident! A clay bar will remove the spots. The fun part is keeping up on the maintenance of your paint and keeping the spots off!!

Anywhere near a railway track? Bluejet hit the nail on the head. Railways are bad for giving up a metallic "dust" for lack of a better term. I know there are loads of track in TO. These contaminents wil sink into the paint and start corroding with moisture. Get a clay bar. They work great for removing almost all contaminents from your paint.

I think any of the responses could be correct. 99.9% of any orange residue equals iron. I've seen it on brand-new vehicle that have been transported by rail and I've personally had it from parking in a factory's lot near an outside air handling system used to remove Wheel-a-brator dust. (Kind of a big sandblaster that utilizes small metal balls to clean parts) I would question the effectiveness of washing it with rubbing alcohol which works great on tree-sap. I'd suspect the orange is primarily on the roof and hood so I'd recommend Meguiar's clay, "lubricated" with Ultimate Detailer. ( 20 minute deal) Then protect it with NXT wax and another coating of Detailer. Then try to park upwind of the source of iron.

I have experienced this same problem. I find it most prevalent around the door trim near the bottom. It surrounds the plastic strip that is supposed to protect against door dings. If you REALLLY REALLY scrub at it, they come off. Annoying though.

Orange Spots

I don't think there is anything to avoid this.

Detailing once a year right after a harsh winter should help.

For those of you who own an Red/Orange Nitro, I'd watch out! Use a clay bar or get it detailed! I had my cousin (who has a Red Nitro) check his vehicle very carefully and he barely noticed the spots. very very hard to see, but you don't want it sinking into your Nitro paint!

Yes you can feel the roughness on the surface , I used Meguiars Deep crystal before I waxed

I couldn't find that product at Canadian Tire so Im going to use the Mothers clay bar.

Anything at this moment will do since I can't wait to go home and scrub the crap off!
That will work! use lots of lube and a light touch ,check for scratching

Any rust spots below the center of the door is due to the brake system; coming from either the semi-metalic friction material or the brake rotor itself. With all the emphasis on stopping distance today, long brake life and concerns for brake dust pretty much went out the window. I've gone to replacing OEM rotors when they're worn out with Brembo's drilled and slotted rotors. I also like Wagner's "Thermo Quiet" brake pads because they don't squeek and produce minimal dust and metal deposits on the paint. I don't think Brembo has rotors for the Nitro yet, but when they do, I'm buying four.
As for removing the spots, clay with a good lubricant such as Ultimate Detailer by Meguiars is the easiest, I've found.

Well, not sure this is your problem, but living in Florida, I pressure clean my home and use bleach. I have a white van, and took it to the car wash, and the fellow told me there were orange spots all over it. He was able to rub them off. I figured even though I moved the car, we get the breeze and it carried some of the bleach over to the van.
Not sure if this answers your question. I hope you can rub them off.

Took my Nitro in to get an aftermarket paint protectionand they knew exactly what i was talking about before even looking at it. I was told it was a common problem in Nitros' and it's Industrial fallout(metaldust) probably occuring and settling on the vehicle at the factory before the painting process. I get it on the roof and hood and dont think there is any permanent solution other than getting the paint removed and repainting. They claybared it and paint protected it. I'll still keep a good coat of wax on as to try to keep an air and moisture barrier, avoiding further corrosion of the metaldust.
