I just completed my first trip pulling a travel trailer with my new Nitro and thought I'd pass this first attempt experience along to whom ever can benefit. .I have an 08 R/T 4x4 auto tranny with the tow pkg.. With just a 1000 miles on it I took it easy in the beginning .The total trip was 550 miles .My trailer weighs 2100 lbs. empty and with the stuff we took along I estimate the total trailer weight @ 2800 lbs. We carried cycling equipment inside the Nitro and it's weight was about 300 lbs. with bikes, parts, tools .Also 2 folks combined weight @ 305 lbs. We averaged between 65/70 mph highway speeds of 200 miles and 50 miles of gridlock traffic. We averaged 15.4 mpg going south overall. On the return we had considerably lighter traffic and averaged 70/75 mph. We averaged 17.1 mpg on the return. The return weight was about 300/400 lbs lighter without food and water supplies.
We traveled a total of 400 miles of interstate (rt 75) of mixed truck/trailer/and auto traffic. The handling of the Nitro was OUTSTANDING. I can honestly say that you wouldn't even know the damn trailer was back there .I expected the trucks doing 80 mph plus were going to blow me off the road .NO WAY !! The Nitro did so well I'm considering moving up to a 24 foot trailer. With 9 years of professional driving in my past ( IBTCH &W) ,I feel qualified to judge the Nitro's ability .Believe me "It gets it done "

That's great to hear. I have to get a hitch for mine so we can take the motorcycle with us more.
They are easy to install softwind.....basically, two styles to choose from. Factory hitch which requires some cutting of the bumper fascia, ( they give you a template ) and after market which hang below the bumper fascia and require no cutting or trimming of anything. Both work well, there are some good tutorials here on the forum. Let us know what you decide to do, we love pictures too. :wavey:

Thank You Quick Silver, I installed mine after looking at "how to's" by a few members and saw how they did theirs....That's what so great about this forum, you can find out how to do just about anything you want to do. And with pictures too !! :wavey:

i posted this a while ago

http://nitroforumz.com/showthread.php?t=2111

update:

have the brake controller hooke up and it works perfect
also have a weight distrributing hitch and sway control

i have towed the trailer with the car on it (trailer weight 1420 car weight 3200 total weight 4620)
did mainly towing around town and in traffic and had absolutely no problems
truck has more then enough power to move with traffic, she handled awsume and had no problem stopping

before this i had a cummins ram duallie that i pulled a larger enclosed car trailer with and i can say that the Nitro doesnt have quite the power the ram did (she was a Banks modified motor with 350 hp and 700 ft lbs torque)
but all in all for what i need now the Nitro had no problem doing what i asked of her and towed the load like a champ

What are you towing?

Ok guys, I'm planning on purchasing a trailer to tow stuff around town. I need to move construction debris, wood for woodworking projects, junk removal (my house is full of it!) and other moving projects. I'm wondering what you guys are using or towing. Pictures would be wonderful, if attached to your Nitro, even better!! :Racing:

Heres a pic of my 5X8 utility trailer, 2900 lb. GVW with 14 inch tires. I use this for exactly what you describe and I'm very happy with it. I have used this many times fully loaded at 50 to 60 MPH and its so smooth with the 14 in. tires you can almost forget its behind you. Cliff

Hi waldorf
Sorry no pix available at this time.
I have a 3000 lb GVW ATV trailer I use for most hauls up and down to the Cabin when needed.
For small hauls, like extra gasoline for the snowmobile or motor bike, I have a luggage rack that attaches to the trailor receiver.Keeps all that gas smell out of the Nitro

John,

I sold it, but I used to have one of those 4X8 flatbed folding trailers that I purchased at a warehouse club for $ 200. It comes in a bolt-together kit and you just add a sheet of 3/4" plywood to the top. You are supposed to cut the sheet in half to make it a folding trailer, but I bolted mine on a a single sheet to give it more strength.

It is street-legal and rated to around 700 pounds. I hauled all the plwood and lumber to finshish a large attic with this little trailer. You can also put removable wood sides on it if you like for trash hauling etc.

It worked great for me, but I would not recommend it for long distance high-speed runs. An occasional trip to the weekend house on the interstate would be OK, but genrally these trailers are for around town jobs.

If you build it as a folding trailer, it folds in the middle and rolls around on casters kind of like a big version of those rollaway beds used in hotels.

The only reason I sold it was that I stopped using it once I had a Suburban with a 4X8 bed.

Here is what we drag behind our Nitro.

our 6x 12 toy trailer modified to haul people ,bikes or used for weekend trips. It has a portapotty,Futon mattress, generator, propane stove ,wash stand ,mirror and whatever. When fully loaded it weighs between 2800/3000 pounds. The Nitro has no problem maintaining a 70-80 mph average giving an average of 16.5 /17.4 highway mpg.

:Racing:I have a 3 place aluminum drive on/off snowmobile trailer 8'6"x 14' + tongue & it works great for hauling my ATV's and anything else as well. Sorry no pics. I alsp pull our 14' camper, see my avatar above at 60-65mph with no problems. Sled trailer with salt shield & no sleds weighs 750lbs. Camper weighs 3,500 with 375lb tongue weight. My old truck pulled it better (Dodge Dakota crew cab 4.7l V8) but didn't get the looks like my Nitro RT does. I also get 3-4 mpg better with Nitro. I have full size tires on both trailers for easier pulling & less wear & tear on bearings (on trailer). I really like aluminum trailers due to their lower weight & no rust issues.

What I tow

Some pics of the nitro pulling my atv. It's a 2006 Yamaha Grizzly 660 4x4. I love it. It's got 26" mudlite xtr tires, black itp rims, fender bag, mile marker winch, also have a box in the garage that i use on trips far from home to carry tools (just in case), and a soft storage bag with a cushion for when my girlfriend goes riding with me.

The nitro towed very well. I was really suprised that it didn't feel as held back as it did seeing as how I'm coming from my old truck thats rated for 12,000lbs to my 5,000lb towing nitro. At first my trailer lights weren't working and I thought it was the truck but then my friend following me told me they would work sometimes. Turned out to be a lose ground. All and all very happy.

Doesn't it get kind of stuffy to sleep in there in the summer with no side windows?
