Anyone having an issue with throttle response? My black R/T takes off like a rocket with very little pedal pressure. It also seems to lay down at around 30 mph and hesitates quite noticeably. It's only got 2000 miles on it, so I will ask the dealer when I go for the first oil change. Secondly, anyone thought about replacing the muffler with a straight pipe? Seems like a bunch of people have said that the CAT Back systems available don't give it the sound they wanted. I had a 96 vette that I put stainless sections of pipe and it had a nice sound, the only time it was really noticeable was when you had it cracked wide open. Anyone try this yet?

Welcome WAYFUN. I have an R/T as well and YES same issue. Seems to hesitate briefly when first applying gas then wants to go like a bat out of hell. Can't say I've noticed exactly when it tappers off but will keep an eye on it. Mechanic friend of mine says its due to the gas pedal being computerized. Hooked up to a module. Computer presently has a hard time reacting as quickly as the human response.

Red R/T

I have the same problem in my R/T. Have to be real careful and not screech the tires. Makes it hard to back up slowly also. Maybe there is a fix for it thru a computer adjustment? Otherwise I love the car!

We have had several discussions on here about the accelerator issue before. You have to get used to it on all models, not just the R/T. However, on the R/T, like you say, it can be touchy. Mine with over 6000 miles is no longer this way. Only when new. The only time I (unintentionally) spin the tires now is making a right turn from a stop and try to accelerate too fast.

28 MPH. I think that is the speed you are traveling when you have your (hesitation) issue. I think it is in 4th gear at about 1200 RPM. It just needs to downshift into second so you can get some torque. I would say to apply a little throttle, but with you already having that issue with your drive by wire you will most likely get the same response some other owners have. That is, a downshift and taking off like a rocket. Mine is not like that anymore, Flowmaster 40, duals, and K&N drop-in give me a little more low end torque.

You can read a little more here on this subject:

something doesn't sound right to me. I have an RT and it doesn't do that. I can screech the tires if I accellerate to quickly from a stop, but I have to intentionally do that. It doesn't take off like a jackrabbit and never has. I'm wondering if there is some other mechanical issue involved that can be adjusted. I'm not a mechanic so I'm only speculating.

Do a search on Exhaust and you will find a ton of details and ideas on custom exhaust.

I am in the middle of putting on JBA headers, a Flowmaster 50 with dual 2 1/4 pipes out, no resonators. I have heard the Flowmaster 40 is a bit loud for some so I am going with t 50.

The 2 1/4 dual pipes should deepen the sound of the V6 a bit. Don't expect the V6 to sound like you chevy small block V8, but you can get a nice sports cars sound.

Waldorf, mine doesn't take off like a jackrabbit either. It sounds like you may have a stronger engine than mine because I would have to hold my foot on the brake and stand on the throttle and release (like a drag race) before I would get a tire screech. Of course you do have cooler air temp up there, which also helps.

But at 28-30 mph in 4th gear, some owners do have an issue. I ignore this issue because mine will accelerate, even in 4th gear, without having to downshift. I think this is a perception issue, not a mechanical issue. With the dual exhaust I have the ability hear how my engine is responding, so I hear it rev even at the lower rpm.
