I thought this was for Candian only? Well I got one in the mail today about it. I live in the Texas btw...
The letter I got said it affected Canadians only. Maybe your sticker is different. see the recall notice thread I put up and look at the sticker. Is the recall number the same on your letter?

Did any of you actually read this sticker and note the difference in the two.

Old Label

New Label

The spark plug is different now. The gap has increased from .035 to .050. Are any of you curious which of these plugs is in your 4.0L? I am. If you look in the owners manual, it says see this label for the correct plug. Do any of you really want to wait for 99,000 miles or 99 months to see if you have the correct spark plugs installed? When the weather improves, possibly this weekend, I will pull one of my plugs to see what I have.

Just in case any of you were wondering, OK so what does this mean to me? From Wikipedia:

The gap adjustment can be fairly critical, and if it is maladjusted the engine may run badly, or not at all. A narrow gap may give too small and weak a spark to effectively ignite the fuel-air mixture, while a gap which is too wide might prevent a spark from firing at all. Either way, a spark which only intermittently fails to ignite the fuel-air mixture may not be noticeable directly, but will show up as a reduction in the engine's power and fuel efficiency. The main issues about spark plug gaps are:
  • narrow-gap risk: spark might be too weak/small to ignite fuel;
  • narrow-gap benefit: plug always fires on each cycle;
  • wide-gap risk: plug might not fire, or miss at high speeds;
  • wide-gap benefit: spark is strong for a clean burn.
A properly gapped plug will be wide enough to burn hot, but not so wide that it skips or misses at high speeds, causing that cylinder to drag, or the engine to begin to rattle.

So, do any 4.0L owners complain about the occasional hesitation? Could it be something this simple?

My 4.0L idles a bit rough, but under hard acceleration it never misses. I'm very curious to learn what you find is in the engine already. I notice that not only the gap has changed, but the plug too, although the heat range is the same (5).

Tim I went looking for this label and after crawling under and over my Nitro I've concluded that it's either not there or it's totally different in appearance. My VECI label is totally different .Are Y'all talking 07 or 08 or both ??
What I did find was there's label's on damn near everything under the hood.

Exactly Waldorf ..My VECI label is totally different .The 08 must be different .First it was supposed to be for folks in Canada only .Then members here in the U.S. were getting the same letter and label. Being a curious sort I went checking and concluded mine was different .The only notable statement on my label regards not meeting CA .emission standards .

Roadie, look at your owners manual. The '07 manual says look at this label for proper spark plug recommendations. The correct plug may be printed in your manual and therefore doesn't need to be printed on the label. But I am curious, if it is printed in your manual, what plug and gap does it specify? This makes me wonder that much more if the '07s have the correct plugs installed.

Tim ..I'll do that as soon as my wife gets back from Church. The books are all in the glove box. Question ..If it's running like a scalded dog,getting better milage than EPA expections and runs smooth as glass ,would you change them anyway ? Why do we call it the glove box anyway ? I've never put my gloves in there ..

Tim..Checked the manual under Spark Plugs .pg.# 358 .The instructions are to see the VECI label located in the engine compartment. I'm attaching a pic of my VECI label. Pardon the poor photography but it's dark and I needed a flash.When I get close enough to read the print the flash washes out the print. The pic may not be legible but it's obvious that the configuration of prior labels posted are very different from mine .The label has zero instruction regarding spark plugs .In fact spark plugs are not even mentioned .The only language within the manual other than what I stated is in the maintenance schedule .It instructs anyone to replace the plugs @ 102,000 miles along with the timing belt. for 4.0 engines only. Ever get the feeling that you've just been walked around the block.

Roadie, I couldn't read yours. But it was obvious that it was completely different than the '07s. They will probably get around to sending you a new label once someone at Chrysler gets their head out of their a$$ long enough to realize they omitted the plug information on the label on the '08s. Do you think they don't care if the vehicle ever gets to 100,000 miles?:Na_Na_Na_Na:

You were wondering if I would replace mine. Yeah, I would if I could get to them to find out if they were correct or not. Changing the plugs on the 4.0 looks to be a week long job for me. I am almost certain I would break something in the removal process, and I would have to video tape the whole thing to make sure I got everything back together. I wouldn't be surprise if there are not specialty tools involved. It will probably cost $400.00 to get the plugs changed.:rolleyes: I guess it will be one of those mysteries of the universe that I will never know.:(

Tim your right ..Either they know it'll never make it to 100K or they won't still be in business if it does get there .I checked the plug access and I think your correct .It's a special tools deal. I think I'd rather do tooth extraction on myself , than change the spark plugs. .
