I have an interesting story and would love to hear yours. This is long but I think it is a great read.

We bought our Nitro on a spur of the moment. We had a 2003 Jeep Liberty and we wanted something a little bigger or at least a cheaper payment than the $425 we were paying.

We left at 9 in the morning and hit a dealership. We were looking for a used Cherokee, Durango, Commander or a newer Liberty. The guy at the first lot had a used Durango but not really much else that caught our eye and a couple of new Nitro's but we didn't look or even think about getting a new car and my wife didn't seem to take much notice to them anyway. :i_rolleyes:

At the second lot is where we ended up buying our Nitro but that comes later in the story. My wife had a friend at work who had a friend at the dealership that sold new and he took us to his friend on the used side. Friend to friend to friend to friend. We saw a 2005 Liberty that my wife liked but the color was an awful blue. I had to say no (at least on cars we have to agree). It also had a scratch on the hood I couldn't get past (I am OCD with appearance). Next was a 2005 Cherokee that had more room, nice deep dark blue, no defects, and we could have got for a cheaper payment around $360 a lot cheaper than the Liberty and almost bought it but.... I wanted to keep looking and we were going to come back. :thk:

Next we went out of town because I always heard prices are cheaper the farther from town you go. Not true by the way. The next lot was a blessing and a nightmare both. We got some 18 year old high schooler who was just thrown in and we were his first customer. We had to drag him around the sales process. Anyway their used selection was crap. He did take us over to the new cars and got us to drive a Nitro (our hidden angel). It was a 2007 Nitro SXT with less features and NO SUN ROOF (a must for the wife). We did like it and did sit down to figure the payments. Again another horror story I am not going to detail but it did let us know we could get it for less than what we were paying. I had to tell the poor boy we would be back and when he called me the next day it broke my heart to say we bought one somewhere else. :(

I told my wife I really liked the Nitro and she didn't say she did or didn't but she called her friend - friend - friend guy since we didn't even look at new with him. He said he had a SLT with sun roof and loaded without MYGIG, we didn't need that anyway, and that he could get it for the same or less price as the SXT just go along with him and tell his manager it was the same. :D

We got there again and he had it pulled up waiting for us. I loved it and when we drove it my wife finally said this was it. Our salesman was great by the way Jason Weiner of South Pointe Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge if anybody is in Tulsa, Ok. We sat down, got it figured, and in our range. After a little haggling (not much) we had a $27,000 vehicle figured at $21,000. The poor sales manager was sweating (literally) he said, "luckily it was the last day of the month." :p

The next part was H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS! The way the finance department had it figured was only on the payment. To get the payment they had us figured on a lease (which I didn't want) and would have cost us more in the long run. I kept doing the math on my cell phone and it didn't add up. After a half hour of arguing I got up to leave and then he brought in the finance manager. He fixed it to a regular purchase, crunched some numbers, and figured the payment length but the payment was back to what we had with the Liberty. The regular finance guy took over again and round and round we went. I was getting mad, my wife was getting ready to cry (the trears were in her eyes), and I was getting loud (watched my Uncle buy too many cars). He walked out on a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria over $68 wire hub caps that he turned around and bought anyway because of my Aunt. Off the subject they still have it mint in their garage with only 4,700 miles on it which has been promised to me in the event Lord forbid. :shakehead:

I did feel like I was being cheated. After we got up again to leave in came the finance manager. He was great I must admit, he just changed our interest rate lower. I didn't know they could do that (said Chrysler Financial owed him one, whatever that means). Boom we were there at $360. My jaw dropped. It did get up to $375 after my wife got sold gap insurance who sold me gap insurance (thanks Honey). We even got our Tag and Title payed for. Again our salesman was great, sales manager was great and the finance manager was great but maybe just a clash of personalities but our other finance person was a joke. After we started that morning at 9 in the morning and ended with us at the dealership from 4 to 9:30 we had a car.

The story isn't done yet (just thought you were done:chuckle:). It was so late their detail guys had left so we had to bring it the next day. In the meantime we showed it off to our parents, our friends, had the windows down and the music loud to draw attention. The next day we went and had it detailed they did a great job (I think). I will explain. When we picked it up it looked amazing and we didn't walk all the around we had to get to a dinner engagement. We went to my buddy's apartment to take them to dinner and while there there was a big Dodge truck trying to get in the spot next to us. I remember clearly because I was making a joke about a woman driving a big 3/4 ton truck to my buddy. Sorry ladies no offense to you just the woman who didn't know how to drive it. Anyway I didn't stay to watch and we left and went to dinner in our new car of course. As we came out I noticed a big scrape on our right rear bumper. Of course my wife called the dealership griping at them about our bumper one of their details backed into something. So we drove like to crazy to get there so our salesman could see it before they closed. On the way my buddy and I explained to his wife and my wife about the truck. By that time she was dead set on their detail guys. Needless to say I stood with my hands in my pockets and again our salesman was great. We got all the work repaired free of charge, free gas for a long while, and free oil changes for a long while. I still don't know who did it. The truck at the apartments was just a visitor, I had my buddy keep watch to check their bumper. However they no longer live there and the mystery remains. :thk:

Done, I promise. :wavey:

My purchase wasn't nearly as exciting. I bought mine with an employee purchase discount, so no haggling on the new car price. However, they do tend to try and make up some of the diffference if you have something to trade.

I did my homework on my nearly 10 year old Mercury Mystique with 141,000 miles before driving to the dealer and I had printout in my folder of what the KBB trade-in value was worth. The salesman offered me WAY less than that. He even told me that he couldn't match the KBB price because of my employee discount.

As I started to get up to drive down the road to the Saturn dealer he was suddenly ready to talk. I ended up getting nearly twice as much for my trade as he originally offered - a price that he'd said he couldn't go any higher on. :i_rolleyes:

He did all he could to get my business. I had stopped by the dealerhip a few times earlier in the week on my way to work. I like to do that so they can't pressure me too much and all I have to do is say "Well, I have to be at work in a few minutes" and then leave.

During one of my stops before work I'd commented on how much I liked the Inferno Red with the chrome accents. I scheduled a test drive for Saturday. Although they had several of the same model with much of the same features and 3.5L engine I doubt it was a coincidence that when I arrived to take a test drive the only Inferno Red one they had in stock was sitting there all nice and shiny, waiting for me to drive it.

I really liked everything about it and the MyGIG with nav was so much fun to play with. With all the gadgets and things I called it my playground on wheels.

Anyway, one thing led to another and Scarlett joined the other women in my life, Elvira and Shirley pictured below. The 4th woman in my life is taking the pic.

Did you end up getting what you wanted for the trade?

No, but it was close. I think we were about $200 off. I figured if I bought something from the Saturn dealer I wouldn't get it at the employee price. I came out better by getting a decent deal off the MSRP.

Tell your wife it's a buyer's market right now. I've helped several people lately to buy a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep at the employee discount price and they were not even related to any employee. Dealers are more flexible and willing to negotiate during this slow economic period.

I can tell you what the employee discount price would be on a Sebring convertible if you send me a PM. Go to the Chrysler website, use the "Build My Own" tool and send me the details of any options you add, including the MSRP that you end up with. Include any zip code in your area if you want the quote to include any current price incentives.

Well unfortunately it will be a while before we get one. The closest thing we are looking out is about 5 years out when I get my new Ram. After that is will be my Challenger and then her "grandma" car as she calls it. We won't be grandparents yet but it would be a cool car to have a sebring convertible for a grandmother. She also likes the 300's and I want a Durango or Aspen.
